my brother was in a similar situation a number of years back while living in the states without a green card, medical insurance etc.

he managed to find a sympathetic dentist who gave him a 50% discount.

in the meantime, soak some cottonwool in whiskey and leave it between your teeth for a while. it'll help numb the pain

i'm not asking you to drink it. just soak a little cottonwool in it and leave it on your gums for a while to ease the pain.

though i'm sure you could use vodka or something with a similar alcohol percentage....

OR

get some chewable aspirin and hold it on the sore spot with your tongue until it disolves (but please be careful, aspirin can cause burns to your gum tissue if this is done too often)

OR

get a couple of cloves and place them between your cheek and the sore tooth. it helps to chew them a little first to release their juices. this is a centuries old remedy.

you may also be able to get your hands on clove oil at your local chemist. if you can, dab a little onto some cottonwool and place on the affected tooth to numb the pain.

AND

remember to rinse your mouth regularly (until you get to a dentist) with salty water, this will help keep down any infection

take care

hug

HOP in no way condones alcohol abuse

You need to get to a dentist ASAP. There are several reasons for this, with the main one being that if the root of your wisdom tooth becomes septic, you could require root canal therapy in addition to having the tooth extracted. From what you have said about pieces of tooth breaking off, it is likely that the root is now exposed. Often, a tooth cannot be easily extracted if it is infected. You could poison your system and antibiotics will be required.

If you don't get it seen to, the tooth could decay to such an extent that extraction becomes complicated and you may have to have oral surgery, rather than having a dentist extract it. Major $$.

GO TO A DENTIST.

In the meantime, go to a chemist and get a bottle of hydrogen peroxide 3%. Make sure it is 3%. Mix 1 part peroxide with 3 parts luke-warm water and rinse mouth several times a day. It tastes foul. If you can get a syringe to flush the area around the problem tooth that would be good. This will kill all bacteria that rely upon oxygen to live.

How do I know this? I was a chairside dental assistant for several years.
