It's probably already been brought up but I couldn't find anything on it thru the search so I thought I'd mention it...
Often on the board there's some sort of popular thread relating to how sexy spinning fire is, how you can pick up dates with it, etc etc.... has there ever been any sort of competition (video, photograph or otherwise) between firedancers to see who's the prettiest? Kind of like a beauty pageant, but with our particular variety of fun thrown in All free, and all just for kicks/bragging rights.
Could be fun if it's never been done before, perhaps some time-lapse photo fire art? Or even video, though that would have to have some very specific rules attached to it for decency's sake. Guys or Gals could each compete in their own division... could be a good addition to someone's modeling portfolio too!

I go away for a weekend and all these cool threads start up.
For any new-ish people, if they want a photo in the Mug Shot Gallery e-mail it to me at durbsuk@hotmail.com or if you want a different/newer picture.
I considered putting in a rating system but changed my mind as it wouldn't be right - we're all beautiful, it just so happens that i'm the most attractive and so win... Not much fun there is there?

We could select the best 12 pics of the submissions, to go into this calendar idea (I LIKE the calendar idea) and then of those 12 select a "Most Photogenic Fire Spinner.." maybe give that one a free calendar or somethin, I dunno But yeah if we made it official I think ppl would jump at the opportunity to try their camera skills and get some good publicity for fire dancing.

I think that people have mixed feelings on publicity. I see what you're trying to do. You're basically looking for beautiful photographic art with fire spinners being the subjects. Obviously, good-lookikg, photogenic people are going to make a better final photo.
That said, there are some issues. Are we objectifying spinners? Are we turning this into some sort of "Babes and Bikes" project (or "Babes and Blazes" as the case may be)?
And what do we want with publicity? Obviously, I am pretty sure that Malcom would appreciate publicity, after all, he is a businessman and he wants to sell toys. less emphasis on idealist "sexy" verging on sleezy. away from playboy/girl models and more towards classical drawing models that reflect the inherit beauty of the human body in all forms. have the goal being showing high quality photography combined with strong dancer compesition in relation to the fire.
i think that part of it is that with a more artisitic take on the photography the model doesn't get into the position where they feel as degraded or pressured to be perfect (i have a little bit of drawing model experience) i also tend to find that confindence makes a person apear much more atractive. personally as far a sexiness i tend to find that the approach where you don't see as much-leave more to the imagination so to speak- is hell of lot more sexy than flaunting it all at once. in a way classic burlesque vs. modern porno.
basically i am amazed by some of the fire photos that i have seen and i would love to encourage people to put forth their finest examples of creative zest through photography.
