Hello one and all. Please feel free to add a post to this thread about anything that takes your fancy, for in this thread there is officially no topic that is "off topic". The only rule is that anything posted in here has to contain no errors of spelling, grammar or punctuation. First person to post a mistake is "it". If it lasts to a second page of posts without an error I'll eat my hat, a picture of which can be seen in my gallery.
That is all, have fun, and proceed with caution!

It's smashing to be back x

'But', I believe, should really be 'merely', or similar, especially if we are talking about proper english, such as that used for formal applications. 'But' is certainly more of a collaquial term.

In fact, you are correct. Please note the edited version of the post.

This extract from your earlier post NOn is an amazingly good example of practical pedantry in action, and I for one heartily approve. While I was delighted with your eagle-eyed pedantic efforts, it was a little deflating to see your apology a little later on in the same post. A pedant of your obvious abilty and flair should be proud of their great contribution to society in general, and, in this specific case, for enlightening the careless Lillie Frog. Apologise no more, be loud and proud!

Many thanks to you for making this comment Andythepoi. I endeavoured to be as pedantic as I could; however, I note with some disappointment, that GothFrogette has managed to outsmart me and spotted an error in my spelling of the word 'classified'. I feel, therefore, that I do have to apologise again. I apologise, not for being pedantic, but for my careless disregard towards the correct spelling of the English language!

Classified. That is the correct spelling of the word.

Finally, I would like to confirm that the word 'English' should be capitalised, as it would be ordinarily be classifed as a proper noun.

I'm guessing that you mean in that sentence there?

Yes, that is the sentence I was talking about.

"Think" should not be capitalised at that point in the sentence!

I think, I may have made it more confusing than necessary. For some reason; the exact nature of which, I do not know; being pedantic equates to using unnecessarily long words. biggrin

Ok. I've done quite enough thinking for one day. I'm intentionally sabatoging this thred with deliberately poor spelling, poor grammer, and furthermore, I will seek to boldly split infinitives and to find new and interesting prepositions to end sentences with.

So hah!

While I would like to take this opportunity to state that in general I am quite delighted with the overall quality of the pedantry in this thread, I feel I must express my disappointment with some of the carelessness on show by so called pedants.
Surely one must realise that if one is going to insist on spotting contributions to this thread that contain errors, point out those errors and provide enlightenment on how to ensure such errors arn't repeated, then one must be absolutely certain that ones own post is completely error free. That thoroughly awful phrase oft used by idiots, "no one likes a smart arse" instantly springs to mind. When one raises ones head above the parapet, so to speak, one must make sure ones armour is sound. My heartfelt recommendation to all pedants, and to those who dream of one day being called pedantic, is to go over ones own posts rather closely before even considering pressing the "continue" button. Thank you very much for your time.

It seems that even the finest pedants can be struck down by careless errors! Which makes me wonder; how many spelling errors might there be in the Oxford English Dictionary?

I'm resurrecting this thread in the hope that people feel like being pedantic once again.

I sincerely hope that posters will be more careful about their grammatical and spelling errors this time. And do remember, "sentence" has no "a" in it.

(Mrs. Martin, my high school English teacher, would love this thread.)

Upon vewing this thread, I have realised that many of our regular chatters on here, have issues.
Many of them are over the top with being pedantic, is it truely necessary? I will be the first to admit, this post is full of holes, however, do I care? I think not.

I must say, my posts are usually quite grammatically correct anyway.
