Hey guys, for those of you that don't know me i am a third year music tech student in the land of hills and rain.
anyway, in one of my modules i have to make an interactive DVD, so naturally i have chosen to do mine on poi, staff, juggling and a little fire art. i have to write a proposal saying who my target audience is, whether a DVD like this is a good idea, and whether people would actually be interested in such a thing. from my ideas so far, the DVD will include stills, videos of performances, a lessons section and information on the history of these arts.
I'd really appreciate some feedback from you guys, as you are the people it would be targeted at. also, i think i'd better put in that this is for my coursework only, im not going to be making any money from it.
thanks for your time smile

It sounds like a cool idea. You should pitch it so there's basic lessons in all the disciplines for everyone who wants to learn, and more advanced performances for people who just want to watch a cool fire DVD. And you should have fire safety messages before it loads... and a thing saying you accept no liability for loss or damage or injury etc a la COL...

Sounds cool though! I'd buy a copy. Sell me one when it's done biggrin I'm always after new poi DVD

What a wonderful miracle if only we could look through each other's eyes for an instant.

Thanks guys - thats a really good point about the safety - will definately pop a disclaimer in there. i've also decided to only use music, which i have written to get rid of the copyright thing... its a bit scary though. will keep you posted!

I suggest having a section devoted to developing a personal syle? How to combine moves, and maybe even telling a story through your performance. Also maybe you could give advice on suitable clothing, fuels and dipping instructions???
Just an idea

Awesome idea. Might I suggest that the things that I personally find the most interesting and enjoyable in 'instructions' are generally the odd, off the wall, strange tips that you only really learn from experience. Most instructional videos lack those elements, and simple things like how to avoid the poi or drop the chains quickly when you know things are going wrong..

Think of it like complicated recipe instructions, you may not ever make the full meal, but you can always take bits and pieces and apply them to other things. The bits and pieces interest me far more than the finished meal.
