You really should use a decent 90 gsm at least, by the way. Think of it as "thick sliced".

The first time I ever tried them was after meeting Mand. We don't have dippy eggs and soldiers here in the States, that I've ever heard of, and MY WORD I've been MISSING OUT!.

What I have had since I was a kid is "Egg in a Basket." Take a piece of bread, use a circular cutter and cut out a hole, but keep the piece of bread that makes the hole.

Put the bread in a skillit, crack open an egg,and pour it into the hole and fry the egg, letting the buttered bread brown. Don't forget to put the piece that came out to make the hole on the skillet too...it's gotta get brown too!!

Once the egg is ready, and the toast is brown, pull them off the skillet and serve 'em up.

biggrin

I've never actually succeeded in making my own dippy eggs, it's harder to undercook than overcook.... umm I might just print some off and save them for all my dippy egg needs...

and i forgot how great toast tastes when cut into soldiers

No... damn being stuck at uni! Oh well. Thanks tild smile You've just sorted what I'm having for tea tonight!

Another good thing... toast some bread, then put tomatoey pasta sauce on it, grate loads of cheese on it, peppers, onions, mushrooms, grill it all... instant pizza.

And the only reason I haven't died of malnutrition.

Me being a Yank, I've never had marmite, though when Mand gets back, that apparently is going to change.

We'll see whether I love it or hate it.
