Hi Bobin Lady

[Old link]

If you use the search thing at the top of the page you get loads of results. Try Wick or Soak or Soaking.

Personally, I dont soak over night but i do make sure that the new wick has been soaked as much as possible. Then i dont let it go out the first few burns.

I always resoak the wicks on my stix right after a burn.

Read loads, you'll find that alot of people here have different methods and that they all work to some degree. Experiment, over time you'll find what workd best. Coz Kevlar aint cheap. Aint cheap i say.

URINE! LMFAO ubblol hahaha

Soaking is a myth. I'll do like 1min then burn, But getting them straight back in the kero is true, they will burn out real fast if you let them smolder.

Indeed. Soaking is a myth.

If anyone tells you to soak them over night, ignore them. Not only about that but on anything else they might say about firespinning. biggrin

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

*chuckles* I knew that wouldnt take long.

Here's my take, soak long if you wanna, don't if you don't.
It's easier for me as I just carry my wicks in my soak bucket.

I dunno how much difference it makes to my wicking, but it makes a huge difference in my laundry bills! wink

Q. How long do you soak them for?

A. I soak em until bubbles stop coming out of the wick.

Q. How long do you soak them for when they're new?

A. Some people break the wicks in by dipping, lighting and burning for a short time, and repeating the process three times.

Q. Do u soak them after use?

A. Depends on a few things, especially fuel. I would soak my wick in kero/shelsol/firewater to stop the wicks smouldering. However, soaking smouldering wicks in white gas/colemns/shellite can set the dipping bucket alight. Alternatively, you can extinguish smouldering wicks with a moist towel.

O.K. I think I got most of that. what's the best thing for us Brits to use, would it be Paraffin? or is there something better around. Is there any difference between paraffin and Kerosene?
I've heard some people mention leaving a cork in the bucket, can someone tell me more please. At present I let them burn out and then re submerse in paraffin and get the lighter to them again but I'm sure it's wrong but as I'm only 6 weeks old (to Poi anyway) I'm sure you will all forgive me.

thankx thankx biggrin
