OK so I've just started learning this pattern, one poi is spinning forward & the other is spinning reverse & I'm doing the weave pattern(hence the name, butterfly weave), yes this does work, but I'm having a hard time with it & i was wondering if anyone could help me with figuring it out

i know this isn't in reference to the butterfly weave but it is about the butterfly, i was just watching a video from a link provided by one of our poi users and i realized that the butterfly actually goes under instead of over, have i been wrong this whole time and that's why i can't go into any of the other moves? or can you do it both ways? confused confused confused

hrmmm....how do i explain it, i'm swinging the poi forward and instead of the poi going in an outward circle they go towards the center inward, does that make sense? redface

you can go either way smile

im never sure which is inwards/outwards though...(i just have right and wrong way butterflys... ) most people find one or the other more natural, so maybe try the other way and see what it feels like? it might be more natural for you.

If I understand you correctly you're just doing a reverse butterfly, in which case you're 3/4 of the way there, it's just a matter of translating that to the other direction.

Have you checked the lessons on this site? They're not bad. This page has some really clear instructional vids mostly because he's using sock poi and an uncluttered video, much easier to see what's going on.

i do em out of thread the needle... turn to the left and it goes from regular butterflies to reverse butterflies.... turn back and forth and they seem to be butterfly weaves. There's the upper fountain(?) with butterfly weaves dealio....

yeah it's all about TTN for butterweaves. You gotta be able to do both forwards and backwards TTN otherwise it isn't a weave, it's just butterflying on each side....which is still cool of course biggrin

Let's relight this forum ubblove

actually spider that's where i saw the butterfly and realized i was doing it in a different direction, and i was looking at the 360 butterfly and i just don't see how you would be able to do that move if you were doing the reverse instead of the regular, rolleyes, i have so much to learn and i feel like i will never have enough time to get as good as i want to be, thank you guys soooooo much for all the help hug and i'm trying to figure out what kind of poi he has and if he made those, they look like a nice pair for practice with

Well like the normal weave there are different beat counts and timings. Standard butterfly weave is just like the weave but spinning in opposite directions i.e. 3 beats, split time.

Turning from inwards -> outwards butterfly and back is sort of the same thing, not really a butterfly weave though. Going from inwards -> outwards TTN and back is though smile

TTN = thread the needle.

Lots of definitions here
