OK... so you can't actually delete a post. If you 'delete' a post it really just 'edits' it to say it was deleted. But it's not actually deleted. It's just edited blank...

Interesting.

Which means you also can't delete a thread like you could in the old school days.

Yes, let's go.

Nope... OK... so if you click Delete it just edits it to say 'deleted'.

Then you can go back and edit your 'deleted' post to say that it wasn't really deleted after all.

So the buttons should be:
-Edit
and
-Edit to say "deleted"

But not actually
-Delete

Because it doesn't. biggrin

I'm gonna try that at work. Rather than actually gettting rid of used chemicals, I'm just gonna put a sign on them that says "Disposed of". wink

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

That explains why I've seen so many posts that say *deleted* after the title, but that still exist.

On a similar vein I'd like to see the 'Quick Reply' box be a general reply to the thread, rather than being posted as being re:whoever posted before.

Hmmm, there was the discussion a while back about if people should be allowed to delete threads. Someone wrote a long post on a thread, and the thread starter deleted the thread and all the replies, including some great points, got deleted.

So, it was considered easier to let people delete thier posts, but not a whole thread.

I do accasionally remove threads when the initial poster has deleted the initial post and I've been asked to remove the entire thread. And then I move it to the site 'Recycle Bin' in case anyone complains.

OK... so lemme see if I got this...

If you "delete" a post, it's not deleted, it's edited to say the word 'deleted'.

If you "delete" a thread, it's not deleted, only the first post and the title have the word 'deleted' added.

If you "delete" a thread and then ask Dom to "delete" it... it's STILL not deleted, it's just moved to a part of the site that only admins can play in.

Seems like quite a bit of deleting in which there is absolutely no deleting going on. wink

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

I remember that. I also seem to remember that one of the biggest complainees was NYC. Or is that my imagination?

I'm so confused.

Right so it seems, after a brief experiment, that you can in fact delete posts. And they remain deleted.

Just make sure that you uncheck the mark as edited box before you press delete and Robert's your mom's secret lover.....

Yes, you have.

But that's not good enough for NYC.

He wants to be able to erase not only his post, but also ANY TRACE THAT IT WAS EVER THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

This is to aid in the execution of his diabolical plans of Stalinist revisionism.
