I got to a stage where I could get to level 8 without losing a life about 50% of the time, and still never made level 9.

I have to stop playing, this game does actually upset me quite considerably. For some reason, losing to a red paddle induces a severe sense of self-loathing that is hard to explain.
A tip: with a bit of practise, you'll find its quite possible to "ace" levels 1 through 4, ie dont let the other paddle get a hit in.
