Hellooo,

I've already done a search on this and got lots of conflicting definitions (as im sure will happen on this thread) so i was wondering if anyone could explain in nice, simple terms what the poi matrix is? smile

I saw someone (BamBam maybe?) doing it at Clapham this weekend and was amazed. I love the staff matrix, i cant do it but it's a lovely move, and the poi matrix looks just as good.

Oh and i cant download videos but i learn really well from descriptions biggrin

Ta muchly! peace

Hey Beth wave

Twas indeedy me on Sunday (ohhh what a lovely end to a lovely weekend that was ubbrollsmile)
I hope you get the matrix, it's a smooth feeling move when it starts to work (but watch out for the hits whilst ya learning smile )

The only thing I'd add to the discription is to bend ya knees and really move with it. I find a nice way to slow the move down and control it better is......(ohhh god I can't explein things very well with poi)........when you do the extension (both arms out to the side) move yourself in a circle 360 degrees in the same direction the poi are moving. It makes the move look really pretty.

Keep me posted on how it's going honey.

Thankyou everyone for the advice!

It's going pretty well actually but im not so great on an anticlockwise 4bt corkscrew, so i had to reverse all the moves for a clockwise one smile If my back didnt hurt so much from attempting a forward btb 5bt i would be practicing a lot more rolleyes but from the practice i have done, it does feel really really nice and smooth.

BamBam, im sorry i didnt get to meet you at Clapham, but there were so many people there it was impossible to speak to everyone, but from seeing you do the matrix, you've now given me my new poi target so thankyou muchly! biggrin

*bump*

Ok, after being shown this at uberpoi I thought thats a nice move, I'd like to learn it. Unfortunately it got a bit jumbled with all the other nice moves, and the whole drilling the planes thing finished it off. I even wrote stuff down about it that now makes no sense (left arm over head, right arm over, left over, right over (see my problem?!).

So I was wondering if any nice person has a link to a tutorial video with this in (definately the poi one I want, not the staff).

Thankyou muchly.

I've been trying to do this recently, and getting something along the lines of it, but I'm not quite sure. Is it a fair description to day it's like a longarm 4 beat corkscrew with the wrists crossing on the left and right sides of the body?

I think your arms kind of cross over your head, and in the middle of the move they seperate out into the longarm, whilst your whole upperbody moves with the poi. Don't really know though, *really* need a video!

Name: The Matrix

De Plane: Horizontal

Beat: [3:3] [swaps 2(11)2]

Technique: long arm, straight arm

Family move: Corkscrew

Its called matrix cause you bend backward when you are doing it.

When 3+3 Corkscrew is going from the bottom to the top, you open your hands and make one big circle as the upper part, than Poi go back to the bottom part.

To bending backward help you to place handler close to the armpit easily.

(similar to vertical giant Wind mill without turn)

hey you guys. i don't know if you're aware of this but backbends if not done properly are absolutely dangerous for your spine. bad enough that really this should be treated with as much caution as firebreathing when someone who has no training attempts to do it.

It's ok, I'm very careful with my back, (I'm a ceramics student and do a lot of heavy lifting every day). I also used to do gymnastics and go to dance lessons, so I know how to warm up and down, (even if I do get laughed at every week when I go to juggling club). Thanks for the warning though!

no, theres a poi matrix there. just watched it. and its right around the 5 min mark. like lazyangel says. now i have to go learn to do it and not A) fall over, or B) break something vital or C) both of the above at the same time.

yoni: I think the hard part (at least for me) is:
a) bending backwards
b) keeping planes tidy
c) the transitions between a corkscrew in your armpit, longarm then back again

yeah i've found the plains to be hard but i seem to get the bending quite easily from the last part of the staff matrix where it comes across your front
