So how to sum up my Burning Man 2004 experience?

High points:
-Seeing all my old friends from college and getting to party with them again
-The general giving and open loving vibe
-Awesome music this year
-No rain and lots of beautiful weather
-Being given a GIFT of an EL wire hat. Yes, folks, a GIFT after I had spun and done some contact work. Matches my EL wire suit perfectly. Best playa gift EVER!
-Doing some of my best performance work of my life and having incredible audiences.

Low points:
-The 50 MPH winds on Wednesday that ruined the whole day
-The unusual ferocity of the playa dust this year that destroyed the soles of my feet, the palms of my hands, the inside of my mouth, and my vocal chords.
-The drunk/high/tripping/some-combination-of-the-previous dude who walked into my tent while I was sleeping in it and kicked me in the kidney. That hurt.
-Eating canned chili for a week. Fortunately, it doesn't matter if you have gas issues on the playa because you're always outside.
-Only one other HOPer showing up to the HOP gathering.

Just downright strange/random points:
-Meeting (and becoming great friends with) a fire spinning high school chemistry teacher.
-Randomly running into my old TAs and one of my old students (all from the same course, so three generations of TA/students) at the same time.
-Oh, and...uh... having Jennifer Steele, of all people, camping right next door to my camp. She's a real sweetie, by the way. And yes, boys, they're fake. I did get to hold her phallic torch, incidentally.

Personally, I think the Jen Steele part was the most mind-blowing. I mean, what are the chances?

Mike's friend: "So there's this porn star in the next camp who does fire shows."
Mike: "Oh? Wait...what's her name?"
Mike's friend: "Jen...uh...something."
Mike: "Steele?"
Mike's friend: "Yeah, that's it."
Mike: "Oh my god...you're kidding!" (huge excited grin)
Mike's friend: "Mike, you're gay. Whatcha all excited about?"
Mike: "She's famous, dude. That's what."

that wouldn't be NYC would it? wink ubblol

still bummed i couldn't make it this year. i had a few friends make it out there though. next year, i swear. next year.

on the bright side, i had a fantastic time at Nocturnal Wonderland. Rabbit in the Moon performed, and they had a very good fire spinner as part of their show. i was quite impressed.

I was always scared with my mother's obsession with the good scissors. It made me wonder if there were evil scissors lurking in the house somewhere.
