Mods, feel free to take this down if you like, but I just got this E-mail from Ray and asked him if I might share it with the Board:

well, seeing as how raymund is a marine or some such thing, I imagine he is dodging suicide bombers for a living.

somehow I suspect raymund is having the time of his life doing that too.

I'm not being dismissive, but Ray's an armoury guy. He's unlikely to be out on the streets patrolling.

He was always keen on having the chance to get out somewhere and fight for what he believed in. Hopefully he'll learn some important life lessons. Good luck to him.

Seconding the request to please keep posting his updates, if possible. I'm very curious to see how it goes. And sending best wishes his way!

Hey Mike,

Since you asked if I would mind if you posted my e-mail on HoP I decided to take a peek into what was said. I havn't been on those boards for quite some time and I am supprised to see some of the same old faces.

To answer a few of the posts, no I am most definatly not dodging scuicide bombers, luckily for me I am not in a hot spot. Though I must correct Dom, it is not because of my job that I am not put out on the streets patroling, but because of my unit and location, both I am not going to discuss openly. No offence to anyone but they just don't need to know.

I am however quite happy and have actually learned a thing or two about this part of the world. Iraq is not my enimy, nor has it ever been. The people of Iraq, at least the ones I have met and spoken to, are both kind and of some of the highest caliber of people I have ever met. I do not know any well, and am speeking on face value alone, but none seem to have the arrogance us "Westerners" seem to think we don't have. They are not evil nor even a little bit bad.

Well, my time is almost up (we have a limited time on the internet and I have used it to write to the populous of HoP), so I must bid a fond farewell and a very big thank you for the king thoughts, especially from Valura, our last words were not of friendship and I thank her and apologise to her for all that was said.

Know that I am happy and proud to serve my country, I hope that we can rebuild Iraq to a higher level than when we first came here a decade or so ago.

Farewell,

S.B.
Cpl. USMC

My response was:
"Hey, S.

Regardless, do watch out for those suicide bombers. We want you back in one piece and moving under your own power, rather than draped under a flag, OK?"

Well I'm glad that somebody over there thinks what they're doing is worth while. Because the emails I've been getting from family members and ex-students over there have been quite depressing.

I assume, like all things, everyone has a different experience of what's going on in Iraq and it's nice to hear differing perspectives.

Stay safe. And the purple heart is overrated. wink

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

I have to say that I agree with NYC, and with my friends hubby prepping to head up 150 infantry marines to go over to join the fight in Jan. it is not getting much better.

Ray, no matter what you do job wise, be careful, be safe and come home soon.

Wow didn't realise Ray was doing that when he left. I certainly wouldn't/couldn't do it, I don't have it in me so props Ray.

So will HoP one day let Ray back in? I hope so, even tho I didn't agree with lots of what he said he had strong well formed opinions most would be honoured to have formed!

Let's relight this forum ubblove
