so i reckon this thread will hold a record of the new things and stuff im learning along the way, all input of any kind is welcome...

*edit*

*where was I? oh yeah here, The elbow, arm, arm elbow roll*

Its simple really, I cant do it.

I've seen some real nice clips of this move (Thankyou MCP/Glass) but I still seem to be missing somthing fundamental.

So I take the staff in my right hand, bring it accross my body under my extended left elbow and roll. extend left arm and let staff roll onto right arm. Bring staff back towards body on right arm

Now here is the problem, it just stops working there, I think i might be missing an extra beat/spin or something. Or it it could be the position of my wrist. Dont ask me what my wrist is doin, it goes all wonky in a natural reaction to the feeling of the staff falling off when i start bending my right arm on the way back in,

Any ideas?

If I can get this I'll move onto to trying to combine it with a shoulder rool and a turn to get it across my back and other shoulder.

I'm hoping to put up a clip soon, not of what i cant do but of what I can, after six months it's be cool to get some HOP feedback.

what fun. i must of spent a solid hour just dancin round the place. we were busking but i didnt even bother to light it most of the time.

the stick just felt like it stuck to me. no tech tricks, no planes. just spinny dancy madness and an attempt at continious contact spinning, which i dont think i ever tried before.

oh what fun

Live it up ben, just cos you got TIME to spin... I haven't spun properly since the EJC really. Just bits and pieces all over the place.

Plus did manage dual fishtails in plane, with good timing, for about ten full fishtails at lunchtime, which was nice. Half the time I start to get into same time dual fishtails by accident.

Plus can almost do antti's throwing move continously. 231 I think it is.

ahhhhh smooth btb entry halo rolls to btb exit.

i love it when i nail that move - also nice in a doubles combo when you pass the other staff bth with your free hands at the same time as the halo. requires some nifty fast hand work though..

am playing around with a the matrix cartwheel concept. it involves throwing myself at random angles onto the ground and getting injured. its good fun though... biggrin

im afraid im completely smitten with contact ball juggling at present so havent had much time for my trust old staff.

argh contact juggling's fun.....i cant do much but its sooo fun

i got some nice fishtail things recently like where i do reverse fishtails, turn to one side throw it from a fishtail catch it on the back of myhand slightly more to one end so it stops still throw it up again so it goes the other direction and turn into reverse fishtails facing the other way fromwhence i started

thats fun and simple...

ive had a savagely bad back recently so i havent learnt much else

mcp, that sounds pretty cool smile i was working on loads of btb halo entry things before my back [censored] up

I've been playing with some upside down wacky matrix variants too. All in the arm swinging maybe? hehe
Crazy stuff there, but my play time is being all eaten up by ball juggling just now redface

Played Looooaaaaads with halo turns over the weekend

Been getting some nice halo, snes, jesus combos (learned the halo entry for the jesus too)

Almost got a continious jesus, two 360's so far

and been playing more with stalls (long one handed types like knox does in his vid. tasty indeed) and traps/bounces. All sorts of craziness especially when its all mixed up with the above.

got a brand spankin new pratise staff two. its the best stick i've ever touched. it just climbs around my body.

one of the lads nailed a matrix on saturday night.

well ideally at least three, one for each hand and one to roll over your back. I wonder what baton-hoop crosses would be like?

back of the neck. i have one. so do you smile

finally i've learned what my shoulder blades are really for (aside for moving my arms around of course)

so got some of these

full steve

full neck wrap

full spins on back of the neck

other assorted stevey type things using traps and bounces.

two to three spins on the back of my neck!!! is it possible to keep the pace more consistant here?

lots of silly combinations of all of the above

i been spending an hour or so every night wandering around my sitting room trying to keep the stick spinning on my back, neck or any other available body part. Its a fun game. there is a lot of wobbling around but some lovely moves are coming along too.

should have started practising horizontal ages ago.

thanks to fear-tine for the inspiration hug

also got a consistant (probable be gone next week) Halo Neck Halo Chest Halo Chest.

where can you go from a jesus on the front side? i keep ending up back in a halo ?

I need to find a way to impart more spin to the staff while nudging it back into plane for these kind of things. I can trap it and send it flying back int he other direction alright but otherwise i end up with a slowing tilting stick as the combos progress

woooooo!!!

start a steve and spin in the direction the staff is spinning.

instead of letting the staff roll down your arm keep it out and drop it a bit. stall the stick perpendicular to your arm on the back of your hand. keep spinning.

loads of things you can do here. i've been doing steve type things for the most part.

not today though. if you drop your hand and lift it back up again. the staff will stall a bit and you can throw it up off the back of your hand, let it rotate and catch in another stall on the other hand.

bounce2

you should be well dizzy by now too.

bounce2

i also got a full pirroutte using only hand rolls. came out of an elbow trap.

hand rolls, wall plane.

if you move an elbow trap way down your arm you can catch it on the inside of your wrist using the very base of your hand thumbside and your forearm you can lock the staff and turn it by twisting you arm. if you do this and turn 180 the staff will go behind you and still be on your wrist. the back of your wrist should be facing skywards and the stick on top of it reay to transfer into the other wrist lock position. which is the same thing in reverse. turn 180

that wrist lock is dead handy

and last but not least, i finally , finally got a halo neck roll halo turning on the spot. using a hook turn. which basicly means cross your legs and spinning out of it. if you've been reading this thread you'll know that this has been buggin me for a long time

so ado-p is a happy camper

biggrin

finally got pendulum/hand wrap thread the needle with doubles. Both ways. Hmmmmmmm.

In terms of contact, I think I almost did an anti-spin angel roll. Hard to tell though. But it feels nice, nicer than an angel.

now do the waist-legs thing but do it with doubles, alternating, and taking the staves back from lower leg to waist as they drop. a bit like a cascade. oh, and you've got to waddle forwards at the same time, in order to pull it off (or at least waddle. i think)

make it look elegant and i'll buy you a pint smile

In other news: Things to learn after you learn dual fishtails: Dual forwards fishtails, stopping and reversing direction using a back of the hand stall, dual fishtails to propellors and dual fishtail 360's. Hmmmmmmm. I almost broke the mirror in my room with that one...
