so i reckon this thread will hold a record of the new things and stuff im learning along the way, all input of any kind is welcome...

*edit*

*where was I? oh yeah here, The elbow, arm, arm elbow roll*

Its simple really, I cant do it.

I've seen some real nice clips of this move (Thankyou MCP/Glass) but I still seem to be missing somthing fundamental.

So I take the staff in my right hand, bring it accross my body under my extended left elbow and roll. extend left arm and let staff roll onto right arm. Bring staff back towards body on right arm

Now here is the problem, it just stops working there, I think i might be missing an extra beat/spin or something. Or it it could be the position of my wrist. Dont ask me what my wrist is doin, it goes all wonky in a natural reaction to the feeling of the staff falling off when i start bending my right arm on the way back in,

Any ideas?

If I can get this I'll move onto to trying to combine it with a shoulder rool and a turn to get it across my back and other shoulder.

I'm hoping to put up a clip soon, not of what i cant do but of what I can, after six months it's be cool to get some HOP feedback.

Love is the law.

i have finally cracked the halo turns at the weekend, i can now do 12ish turns woooooo

i can do reverse fishtails in both hands perfectly now, with eyes shut etc

however i can only get about 7 or 8 beats with dual fishtails, i find it really hard to keep them both in rhythm with each other

any suggestions?

ok finally trid double fishtails with fire lastnight, makes things harder, cuz of the extra air resistance, and the freezing cold frown they did work, but not amazingly.
Nate, after manageing halo turns once i cant do em any more....tell me how again!!!!!
His halo turns (when i saw them were like this) halo then kinda neck pinch, and the staff goes back in to a halo, the other way and so on, t'iz most cool to watch biggrin.

how do i get my steves to roll cleanly down my arm into the the throat side wrap?

Trying to figure that out at the moment lava. Should you somehow turn your arm so it doesnt hit the bicep and bounce?

hold your arm out straight and roll the staff down your upturned arm.

when it gets to your bicep rotate your arm in so the staff is now rolling on the side of your bicep. much better path for the stick

this is how i get a globe trotter as seen done by mcp

can you edit for a steve like manoooover

forward and reverse fishtails seem easier with my arm higher and straighter.

tried this too

elbow roll- wrist roll - half reverse fishtail - turn 180 - transfer to opposite hand - half forward fishtail - turn 180 - wrist roll - elbow roll

and it worked

smile

my fave one of those is to keep the staff on one hand, do a few fishtails, then stall the staff, wristwrap, back in to fishtails and so on, then in to hand to hand rolls, and to the other hand, but the to the other hand dosent work so well yet

move your hand down the staff, to a bout 3/4 the way down, like devilstick type moves, and it should flatten out compleatly, then from that move your arm round so it pushes the staff roundin to a wrist wrap, which you can do as many of as you can/like then you can stall it again and go back to the fishtails, what im trying to do, but cant yet, cuz i dont get reverse fishtails, is do the above, but go from fowards to back wards, and maybe incorperate a few throws to switch hands, probs just rambled on too much there, sorry

move your body with the staff to slow the relative motion down till u find the correct path

I'll play with that more, oo some thing you may be intersed in, tried chi ball with closed eyes that was cool, apparently, as i couldnt see.

but it did feel righter if thats a word

I think that the problem i have is with the technique rather than the flow for the steves, or just the fear of smacking my nose shrug

damn hailing weather!!!

right ado a description of my halo turns

hmmm right start with a normal halo (of course) i do a sort of neck pinch to carry it around cuz i just cant get it clean without them, and you just keep turning every now and then giving the staff a little nudge where needed

lava if you thought i was good at them then you should see me now and with my own staffs

as for steve variations i can do them, but not with my staffs cuz they are a bit bent and it just bounces down my arms.....its a shame cuz i love playing with these

i've also sort of adapted my style a bit recently, been playing aroud with stalls and changing plains mid contact, so you're doing normal neck wrap stuff and the you do a neck pinch or something and change the plain, for example into halo rolls
its soooo good being able to link tricks together

ben i will have a video up reasonably soon, jet (facelessjoker) has been sneakily filming me, don't you just hate it when that happens. anyway i want to get someof the contact that i'm doing now perfect, just for film smile

i'll also wack some poi in there aswell.....ooooh my poi skills are kicking ass

oh and ben the mirror thing works a treat, slowly but surely getting my dual fishies a bit better

how did i miss this thread before

nah, solder is sooo soft! Its almost squishy... plus it usually sets in nice round forms, or if it doesn't, you just poke it again with the iron... I used to make my initials out of solder...

adobe: That's why I might need flux to make it stick. Myabe the soldering iron will 'burn' a mark on the ali anyway.
