since i don't have anyone to spoil me i've decided to spoil myself and have just booked 3 1hour sessions in a floatation tank. i'm really looking forward to it biggrin

they say that 1 hour floating is the equivalent of 6 hours sleep!

has anyone ever been in one? i'd love to hear about it.....

I've done a float. It wasn't at all what I expected, tho.

It certainly wasn't the equivalent of 6 hours of sleep and I didn't trip balls like I was told I would. Maybe I needed to be in there more than an hour. But it was really cool and really relaxing.

A couple of tips from experience:

Don't shave that morning if you can avoid it. The water is super salty and it will make your face sting. Felt like fire ants crawling on my face, it did! eek

Leave your eyes open as much as possible. In the dead silence, with your ears submerged, you can actually hear the vibrations of the muscle fibers in your eyelids contracting if you close your eyes. It's completely dark, so there's no need to close your eyes. peace

Take a GOOD, LONG shower afterwards. The water is ultra-salty and it will leave a film on you if you don't get it all off. Wash your hair twice or three times. I thought I had it all off of me, but I spent the rest of the day feeling all gross from it. ooooops

Oh, and don't use the music. Complete sensory deprivation is pretty cool.

OMG, that looks so cool. I would love to try it.

I was always scared with my mother's obsession with the good scissors. It made me wonder if there were evil scissors lurking in the house somewhere.

I agree with lightning, Afterwards i did feel like i had a second skin though from all the salt.

Don't worry if your first time is not the most relaxing time ever because i've been told the more time's you float the deeper relaxed your body will go each time. The hour goes Incredibly quick and when your finished i think i was told to make sure i drank heaps of water.

Otherwise enjoy it. It is an incredible experince.

I wanna go there too sometime. My former boss once told me about those tanks. They were pretty famous in the 70s. He said it's nearly like a *ohherecomesahardword* psychedelic trip because your body is nearly like flying / agravic and since you nearly have any sense at all left (no noise, no light,...) your brain starts playing tricks on you... smile I don't know if it's the same in those tanks though....
