that looks liek a quarter time flower.... see normally your flowers are done split time and move in quarter section.. which puts the circles like this:

Code:

(R)

--> (L) (R)

(L)

but that looks like a quarter time flower... moving in 180 increments..

Code:

(R)

(L) -->(L)

(R)

that's my opinion.. might not be right.. but at least what I'm saying will make that pattern.. there are a number of things that could get to that..

Rev I wish I could understand your diagrams! There must be so much I miss out on rolleyes

As the move sees to be totally linked up to itself, ie. each poi start and finish in the same position and pretty much go 360 going round both left and right sides I'd say some kind of TTN crossovery type flower....and I'm sure that description's a big help ubblol

Its flower. Each hand do two small twists,like snakes and two part of cyrcle, but when one hand do part of cyrcle second one do small twist.
U can catch it, just imagine big diagonal cross, simetricly on the pattern.
Red -blue is one hand Green-yellow the second smile
Hope it helps, because the pattern is really nice smile

Do both hands go the same way, or opposite?

Methinks Rev is right. Quarter time two beat separations (flower). Pretty nice pattern, never really messed around much with quarter time flowers but I might now smile

Both arms are going the same way but unlike a normal flower where your arms are split time, they are at right angles to one another and do 180 rotation per separated beat.

have you tried asking funken , the dude who was doing the move ??? just an idea ... and then ,

my second statement is that i think that that move could very well be made by a staff... my reasoning is that the circles almost look too perfect . but ... no wait ... wait ... im wrong just took alook around his pics and theres others with the same lights that are deffinatly poi ... bugger...

good move, pretty colours... sorry cant help

cool

ok.. look at number one... it is a normal flower.. lets say the right side like in the pic.. right hand is 12:00 and left hand is 6:00... now move that 90 degrees to the next part of diagram one.. now the hands are at 3:00 and 9:00... that is the typicalflower.. hands stay 180 degrees apart.. and thus the little loops in the pick.. would be on opposite sides from each other.. green at the (R) and red/blue at the (L) (I'm not looking at the pick... just trying to explain what the flower would look like)

Instead however... this pick shows a quarter time flower moving in 180 increments.. which is a flip.. so what you ahve are thew right and left hand 90 degreees apart.. ie one at 12 and one at 3...(look at the little circlesque parts of the pick.. ) and then they move 180 (the giant blob) to the other little circleesques at 6:00 and 9:00...

look at diagram two... put your hands in the place right at R and left at L and then in the next part move your hands to these new positions.. in the diagram.. if you have poi.. you'll see what I mean...

more simple i think would be to keep arms split-time and do alternate carries (the bit of the big circle in between the small circles) and petals 90 deg out of phase.

ie. when one arm is sweeping the big circle, the other is spinning as petal - as the first arm finishes a petal, it begins to sweep 180 deg to the next petal point while the other arm is spinning one of its petals.

so split time arms, left hand spins petals at 12 and 6, right arm spins petals at 3 and 9.

only pointing this out cos doing quarter-time with long arms is a bitch and will tear your shoulders from your sockets if you keep clean planes behind you... ubbrollsmile

1) with a staff yeah.. but with poi.. refer to coleman and I.. nice pic btw

2) coleman... like I said in my firstpost.. I can think of a few different ways to get that effect.. I guess I don't think of flowers liek everyone else though.. my strings being lots shorter flowers arent' as pretty if I fully extend my arms.. lol.. so I guess the quarter time thing doesnt phase me.. kudos for simplicity.. in all the variations that came to mind I can't really say that came up.. well.. not without more boringness on top of it.. lol..

I dont' agree that it can't be done...
I can't show you though because my cam doesnt pcik up sticks.. so picking up a huge tracer wont' work...

I also think people missed the point.. it CAN be done with poi.. whether or not it WAS done with poi... on the question of how to make that design refer to either my posts, or colemans.. which btw we werent' arguing.. there are a few different ways to get that design with poi.. the above happen to be the two simplist...

now i dont know what a flower is , and i cant explain the move either . though by the looks of it , its a simple move with abit of wrist involved...

*i can see myself going nuts for the next few days*

A Spirograph is a curve formed by rolling a circle inside or outside of another circle. The flame is placed at any point on the rolling circle. If the radius of fixed circle is R, the radius of moving circle is r, and the offset of the flame point in the moving circle is O, then the equation of the resulting curve is defined by:

x = (R+r)*cos(t) - (r+O)*cos(((R+r)/r)*t)
y = (R+r)*sin(t) - (r+O)*sin(((R+r)/r)*t)

Hope this helps ubblol

i agree with Rev...it can be done, but i disagree about the flowers, i think it would have to be real fast semi flower pattern but doing fig 8's instead of actual flowers.

Sounds like a Pinwheel in staff speak

----------Manipulation Movements----------

*PINWHEEL = When the staff spins in a large vertical circle made up of smaller circles. Most common pattern for a continous BTB move.

* FINGERSPIN = To roll the staff through your fingers one-by one, keeping the staff stationary and spinning in a ROTOR or HELICOPTER.

have a look [Old link]

or

x = (R+r)*cos(t) - (r+O)*cos(((R+r)/r)*t)

y = (R+r)*sin(t) - (r+O)*sin(((R+r)/r)*t)

like i said the first time,

apologies for my for the off topic humor folks, its just i never post in these threads coz im pants at poi and its very exciting.

Would love to see someone create this pattern with poi , best o luck!!!! wave
