here is one of mine, a recent one...

I dream of eyes.

Fireforged
in a cascade of tinsel shards,
steel fragments, polar ice and
a heart of gold.
Those iris jewels
diamonds reflected in a look
of Eternity and Infinite
depth; the eyes of Kalypso.
Eyes which never were
but should have been,
eyes that mine
should have seen.

I dream of eyes.

RETIREMENT THROUGH MY MOTHERS EYES

I think Ill sleep til noon today, no early morns for me
Ill wake up slowly then read awhile just you wait and see
Ill tackle all the projects that till now were left undone
like drinking coffee in my robe waiting for the morning sun

Ill travel to the places Ive only heard of up till now
and hope that with my man in tow we wont get lost some how
Well see the sites of Portland from the rivers to mountain heights
and look into a starry sky and cuddle till daylight

On New Years Eve well stay awake to see the next day in
and ring it in on New Yorks time and be in bed by ten
Our fireworks may look funny to be shot off QUITE so soon
but if we had our own choice midnight would come around at noon

Maybe well take the family to Vegas and see our darling son
of course the visit would have to wait until the gamblings done
Then wed sit to chat awhile & enjoy just sitting round
then go to see the city lights after the suns gone down

Maybe well buy a Harley and ride for miles and miles
I know this thought iS surely what would make my daughter smile
but with my independent ways it would never work you see
could you imagine Gary agreeing to ride the seat behind me

Well spend more time with Daimion our only grandson
the great thing is you get to send them home when you are done
Well go to parks, and zoos and every trip will be a surprise
what better way to regain some youth than through a childs eyes

Each day Ill view as a present a gift waiting to be unwrapped
which at some point everyone will include an afternoon nap
But best of all, Im sure youll guess, is having my days free
So I can enjoy all that retirement, life, and my dreams will offer me

My heart weeps for you
every time I see your tears
My heart bleeds for you
when your eyes reveal their fear

I hurt so deeply for you
that you cant understand
How much Id like for happiness
to someday hold your hand

The bruises may fade away
the cuts may no longer seep
But in your heart I know the pain
of your heartache still runs deep

I sometimes envision you
on wings made of gold
Flying so high above
the chains that bind your soul

How beautiful it would be
to see your heart take flight
Away from all the stress below
far away from all the fights

But for now I must watch
while you go it alone
Until you decide enoughs enough
and you decide to come back home

Posted:9TH & HENNEPIN

Well it's 9th and Hennepin
And all the donuts have
Names that sound like prostitutes
And the moon's teeth marks are
On the sky like a tarp thrown over all this
And the broken umbrellas like
Dead birds and the steam
Comes out of the grill like
The whole goddamned town is ready to blow.
And the bricks are all scarred with jailhouse tattoos
And everyone is behaving like dogs.
And the horses are coming down Violin Road
And Dutch is dead on his feet
And the rooms all smell like diesel
And you take on the
Dreams of the ones who have slept here.
And I'm lost in the window
I hide on the stairway
I hang in the curtain
I sleep in your hat
And no one brings anything
Small into a bar around here.
They all started out with bad directions
And the girls behind the counter has a tattooed tear,
One for every year he's away she said, such
A crumbling beauty, but there's
Nothing wrong with her that
$100 won't fix, she has that razor sadness
That only gets worse
With the clang and the thunder of the
Southern Pacific going by
As the clock ticks out like a dripping faucet
Till you're full of rag water and bitters and blue ruin
And you spill out
Over the side to anyone who'll listen
And I've seen it
All through the yellow windows
Of the evening train.

Not sure you can call this a poem as such its more a performance work but I love it. It paints a picture so vivid if I close my eyes I can see it. Its By Tom Waits and can be found on the Rain Dogs album.

Posted:WARNING!!!
-Shel Silverstein

Inside everybody's nose
There lives a sharp-toothed snail.
So if you stick your finger in,
He may bite off your nail.
Stick it farther up inside,
And he may bite your ring off.
Stick it all the way, and he
May bite the whole darn thing off.

Prayer of a Selfish Child
-Shel Silverstein

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep,
And if i die before i wake,
I pray the Lord my toys to break.
So none of the other kids can use 'em....
Amen.

SARAH CYNTHIA SYLVIA STOUT
by Shel Silverstein

Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout
Would not take the garbage out.
She'd wash the dishes and scrub the pans
Cook the yams and spice the hams,
And though her parents would scream and shout,
She simply would not take the garbage out.
And so it piled up to the ceiling:
Coffee grounds, potato peelings,
Brown bananas and rotten peas,
Chunks of sour cottage cheese.
It filled the can, it covered the floor,
It cracked the windows and blocked the door,
With bacon rinds and chicken bones,
Drippy ends of ice cream cones,
Prune pits, peach pits, orange peels,
Gloppy glumps of cold oatmeal,
Pizza crusts and withered greens,
Soggy beans, and tangerines,
Crusts of black-burned buttered toast,
Grisly bits of beefy roast.
The garbage rolled on down the halls,
It raised the roof, it broke the walls,
I mean, greasy napkins, cookie crumbs,
Blobs of gooey bubble gum,
Cellophane from old bologna,
Rubbery, blubbery macaroni,
Peanut butter, caked and dry,
Curdled milk, and crusts of pie,
Rotting melons, dried-up mustard,
Eggshells mixed with lemon custard,
Cold French fries and rancid meat,
Yellow lumps of Cream of Wheat.
At last the garbage reached so high
That finally it touched the sky,
And none of her friends would come to play,
And all of her neighbors moved away;
And finally, Sarah Cynthia Stout
Said, "Okay, I'll take the garbage out!"
But then, of course it was too late,
The garbage reached across the state,
From New York to the Golden Gate;
And there in the garbage she did hate
Poor Sarah met an awful fate
That I cannot right now relate
Because the hour is much too late
But children, remember Sarah Stout,
And always take the garbage out.

I packed that stuff around for 12 hours to be able to take it home with me! I aalso keep every slip of paper I write on, even though I've forgetten why it was important at the time. I figure that if it was important enough to write whatever it is down, it might be important to keep & mayeb someday I'll remember why. Oh! The life of a forgetful pack rat!

Posted:ick... same as, I have far too much stuff for a 22 year old... i did attempt a throw out the other day and managed to get rid of precisely one carrier bag of paper..... most of that was old magazines. Of which there is infinitely more, and before any of them go, i have to rip out interesting articles & pics, which are intended for scrapbooks and sketchbooks, only there is currently a significant backlog of them to be stuck as well..... and.... I don't really know why i do it.... confused granted it can sometimes be interesting to look back at them but so much?? one day I'm going burn it all.........

I blame all my design technology teachers, they started it with their flippin' scrapbooks of stuff that interests you.... and i think you have to be a hoarder to get through a design degree because otherwise they just don't believe you've done any work....

.....
.....
.....
.....

No whispers,
No dropping of pins,
Only the most purest and absolute of sound,
Silence.

The complete opposite of modern society,
Unobtainable solitude amongst the buzz of neon lighting,
Yet some find ways around such uniform noise.
They move silently,
Talking with light,
Giving unheard meaning with a gesture of movement.

Most would mark deafness as a curse,
They may be right,
Yet I find my "curse" the only advantage I have,
I never get to hear them,
Never scarred with the immovable memory of a victim,
Their screams mean nothing to me,
as my blade peirces their flesh.

Posted:Generation lost

A man stares out on into space.
a look so blank upon his face
no anger frustration or shocking alarm.
a lifeless child held in his arm.

How do you justify this waste
the world looks on with such distaste.
the graves of the many lie cold in the field
this horror a weapon that no man should weild.

For days on end they held their ground
then splitting the silence came round after round
Mothers will cry for years to come
their daughters a symbol of hate gone so wrong.

I do an injustice to those taken so
for a worthy poem i cannot bestow.
their memory will last at least here on this page.
we pray for their souls to be freed from their cage.

Shadows bonded on concreate

Souls become none

Broken apart dissipation

Emphatic emptiness

Little miss muppet
sat on her tuffet
collecting her shell shock wits (or something along those lines)
when down from a glider
dropped and H-Bomb beside her
and blew miss muppet to bits

hehehe I love that poem

and heres a joke i made when i was about 6 one night with my family i liked rhyming so it's more poetic than joky...maybe

how did the man fall of the floor?
he jumped out the door.

makes as much sense to me now as it did back then...

and perhaps the greatest haiku ive ever read is

the sparrow hops along the veranda, with wet feet

by shiki, gary snyder described this to jack kerouac once and thats where i heard it
