Hello, hello and welcome to the thread for all Irish fire dancers, spinners, object manipulators, drummers, musicians and anyone else interested in these arts in Ireland.

This thread was started nearly a couple of years ago now... and it's since grown to include more people, gatherings, events, fun and games than we had thought possible.

And it's still growing - so if you're new to the arts, or want to meet up with any of us, please post at the end of this thread to introduce yourself... or send me a PM with your email address and I'll add your name to our mailing list.

There are spinners, dancers and manipulators all over the country, and you'll find lots of them on here... don't be shy, we're nice biggrin

So welcome, and hope to see you soon hug

Burnoffs are great but I can stop anytime I want, honest biggrin

As for changeing titles, you need to reach 101 before you can personalise it, but I cant remember how much you need to changer from newbie to member....

Probably best to do a search wink

today I was in a park in Dublin (St Stephan's Green to anyone who is privy (^_^) !) and I lit up and started spinning my staff. so a guy was watching and came running over asking to breath fire using some of my fuel.

So I gave him some if he agreed to teach me...

everything went sweet. I had been floating around the forums and I think it was a lady called Pele had that guide as part of her signature so I got really interested and then read up most of the related threads (can't have enough safety! =P )

I was very careful and had 2 people with wet towels beside me when i tried it first and there was water too in a bucket .

*ohh I am aware of the fact that you can't put water onto a burn that's over a first degree burn, alot of fighting over that one on several threads.*

but anyway, I put fuel on my wicks and a little bit in my mouth (I was still able to smile with the fuel in my mouth, but it tastes like, what I imagine ass does man, seriously!)

but I started up my routine (why yes, I have a routine xD! in temple bar square btw) and then I just did a roll onto the ground with the staff towards the croud while spinning, then rolled onto my back , sat up and sprayed the fuel that was in my mouth (they hadn't seen me put it in my mouth) and loads of them were very surprised! it was great, and my safety and the crowd watching were clapping really loud, it was sweet.

but the only reason I was able to do it properly without hurting myself was because I didn't just run out and try it without studying it up, and someone very experienced taught me how to do it, safely, and with people with wet towels and water etc. if i fecked it up at all.

anyway, tourists and even a few Irish ppl were quite impressed, the garda even watched and didnt mind! I had a great time! now all I need is a hat... (^_^)

What fuel do you use? Can you private mail me a reply? I try to keep the fuel i use a secret so no gob$h!te tries it.

That sounds like a glorious idea! the perfect location for a sendoff! i recon sat 24th would be best. that'll be the weekend before my b.day biggrin. (the saturday directly after the 14th is the 17th.)

Claire, i dont know if i'll be doing anything for the dun laoghaire thing;
1) nobody down here seems to be too interested in doing anything without fire.
2)the organiser doesnt know what she wants andwe cant go out and play, we need to have a registered number and licences etc.
but we could have a big busky thing. if you, coleen and diane wanna come down anyways. and if ye want to go to the festival i could pm her number to you.

Hey peoples!

Does anyone know where i can buy kevlar wicking in this country? I dont have a credit card, so buying off the net is a little awkward.

I want to make a firestaff for a friends birthday, and the wicking is the only thing i cant source. Can anyone help? Or suggest an alternative?

If you can get to Dublin city center, from the Ha'Penny bridge go towards Henry Street and halfway between the two there is a small shop called Visuals that sells wicks for ten euro.

its on lower liffey street, opposite Leo Burdocks at a lil fancy food center.

I don't know if those directions are any use to you, but I'll be in dublin today, and i'll probably be breathing in temple bar if it's not too windy, if your about I'll show you where you need to go, and you can get lamp oil near there too (which I'm told is pretty hard to find)

take it easy...

Hi All,

I'm just back from 2 weeks in Thailand sunny sunny - what a country. Saw some cracking spinning on Had Rin beach and there was a great street stall in Bangkok selling all types of spinny paraphernalia for rock bottom prices - magic.

hey Lisa, I'm on for the 24th - sounds great. I hope you're enjoying being a lady of leisure!

Colleen - big hugs and much love, hope you get well soon. hug I know Dr F has already offered but if you're ever stuck for shelter in Dublin don't hesitate to give me a shout.

Does anyone have a number for Jake (the drummer of Jake and Ariel fame)??. I know a couple of people looking for Djembe lessons (me included - I bought a Djembe in Thailand and I suppose I should learn how to bang it like I mean it).

I can't make trinners tonight cause I'm working late after committing the heinous crime of taking 2 weeks off but I'm sure I'll catch up with the Dubs over the next couple of weeks.

Remember what the doormouse said
