i know im no bovril,

I think my prowess with balloons has been greatly overstated, I don't think I'm as good as people seem to think I am.

Anyway, advanced poodle? sounds interesting, which bits are different to the standard dog balloon?

I'm not too great at balloon headwear, but I'll have a think about how to make a pair of horns and see what I can come up with.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

I'd forgotten that I could make the sword of omens, I think I'll have to try one again soon smile

I've been trying to make some horns and this is what I've come up with - it's not great but it's a start. They're quite over-exaggerated, but obviously it'd be quite easy to adjust the length.

Inflate a balloon so you've filled about a foot of it with air.
Squeeze all the air from the knot end down the balloon until you've got about an inch left at the non-knot end.
Make a 1 inch bubble, then a 1 inch ear twist, then squeeze the rest of the balloon and make it into a curve.
Do all of that again with another balloon
Twist both balloons together at the base of the curved bubble
Tie both the knots together.

I've got some pictures here, I've made them with two different colours to make it easier to see which bits go where.

There's two problems with them that I can see.

The first is that both horns come out of the forehead, rather than just above the temples, which I reckon would be much cooler. I'm playing around with a 3 balloon pair of horns to see what I can come up with.

The second is that the bit that goes around your head get tangled in hair pretty easily - not a problem if I'm going to wear it myself but I wouldn't be keen on giving it to someone with long hair.

What d'you reckon? What could I do to them to make them better?

I've just uploaded some of the sculptures I'm particularly proud of into my gallery... Charles Balloon & Child & Fire Gallery

For easy instantly recognisable horns, simply insert a 160 into a 260 and tie the nipple end into a knot so the two balloons are locked together at the end.

Then inflate it and it will curl up into a tight spiral that looks exactly like a rams horn!

It looks great, is quick and easy, and even non-balloon sculptors usually recognise it on it's own, before it's even attached to anything else.

I'll make one and add it to my gallery shortly...

I've loaded the finished horn picture onto my gallery as well, now. I left one end a bit longer as its easier to see the way it comes out, but it can be spiralled thw whole way around...

Nice pics Charles, I think I've seen a couple before, maybe when you posted about your helicopter.

I think I might try making some decent horns using those curled up balloons, they're pretty cool.

When I was staying with Arsn and Valura, I was challenged to make a seventeenth century carousel, because Sideshow Luke Perry makes one in the simpsons.

It took between two and three hours and just over fifty balloons smile

here's a picture

For a bit of scale, here's a picture of part of it, modelled by my lovely assistant Arsn tongue

Just started balloon modelling biggrin

I've been wanting to for a while, then i did a workshop at the scotish convention this weekend and I'm instantly hooked.

I have a question, I missed the second workshop where they made a 6 petal flower to go acrobalancing. The flower looks so much nicer than the 4 petal flower than I can make, but I can't quite work out how to do it. Is there anyone who can help, I've looked on a balloonHQ and done other searches on google, but I can't find what I'm looking for.

Could any of you help?

Also, could anyone recommend any good balloon modelling books, with lots of models, preferbly that will start at a beginner level and progress further.

Thanks!
