wavehello hey kids, im lorry and new to poi and this site so i may need ur help.
have been learning poi for, oh, about a week. saw a guy spinning fire poi in my first year at uni and am now in my third year and have only just got my ass in gear! its not just a fad - im not gonna give up in a few days time. ive wanted to do it since i saw this guy do it over two years ago and have only just found out how to go about it.
got some practice poi (tennis balls on chains) and have been learning from the instructions that they came with, so any hints and tips from u guys would be very useful. smile
going to global gathering for the fourth year in july so would like to be quite good by then - let me know if u think im kidding myself!!
anyhoo, gonna take advantage of the sun and whack myself in the face a few more times ...

Hello Lorry!!

No it's not too optomistic to be reasonably good by then but you gotta put the time in! Look at all the moves here, read what you can, ask querstions but remember to do a search first cuz you wouldn't believe the amount of same questions that come up time and again, and practice practice practice! smile

You could try sock poi, just get your tennis balls (maybe put a couple coins inside each for a little extra weight) put them in some socks and tie knots on the end for handles and you can spin reasonably safely indoors and the weather won't ever stop your spinning!! They're also the best poi IMO especially with glo hacky sacks in them at night time! biggrin

Hi Lorry,
I can trully empathize with the "whacking of face with tennis balls".
From one newbie to another newbie, welcome.

I was always scared with my mother's obsession with the good scissors. It made me wonder if there were evil scissors lurking in the house somewhere.
