I've had mine for quite a few years, and, well, umm, redface I'm going a bit grey umm, and I'd actually like to dye that out.... but it's been soooooooooooo long since I've dyed my hair, and have never died dreadies, so... ubbloco any tips?

(sorry to the mods if this is in the wrong spot...)

Hi Orange Bobo! This is a fun topic! So, about Shampoo- I use the natural stuff like JASON without additives to make it Shiny or Tangle-free. (hit up the Natty-Food Store) Takes a while to rinse... I came up with a great ad for Conditioner- get in the shower with 3 foot dreads and the "product" and come out with straight silky hair! I never use conditioner as it does make my ends un-knot. But sea-water and Playa-dust are !Muy Bien! for dreddies! And a little pine pitch smells great! just a Little! Even tho I get fluffies, it feels great to Shop-Vac it too! Especially 'cuz I deal with sawdust, drywall dust and stuff in it all the time. Maybe someone will set up a dreddie Salon with power-wash and shop-vac services! Hee hee! ubblove

A bit like the ad we have in sydney - a bloke puts on teh clothes to wash, then sticks his arm in the washing machine, and what do you know, his new tattoo comes off. His mum comes in a says: "I love you washingpowderproduct name" ubblol

It was posted in another dread thread years ago but I can't find it now. What do you do for itchiness like at the start or something. My girlfriends got braids - not dread - but she's itching like mad...

rosemary is a good combatant for itchies. as is tea tree, and aloe vera

you can make a rosemary tea to put on your scritchy noggin and let the skin soak it all up, instructions can be found at https://www.knottyboy.com/itchies.htm
and they also recommend a light vinegar water mix spray.

basically, its a matter of keeping the skin on your head happy!

i'm contemplating dreads myself (again...i've had this debate with myself quite a few times)

i dunno, i'm a very transient person when it comes to my hair, so having anything that is as (nearly) permanent as dreads freaks me out. yes i know, i can cut them out. but the only constant with my hair has been it's length. i have not cut it since i was 11. i look horrible with short hair and i will not cut it again.

i love the dreaded look....such a turn on for me. but i think i might stick with braids for myself just so i can take them out and put them in whenever i want.

as for the itchies, i also heard lemon juice helps. you just have to be careful to wash it out before going into the sun or else you get bleached hair

I was always scared with my mother's obsession with the good scissors. It made me wonder if there were evil scissors lurking in the house somewhere.

I put up a photo of my dyed dreddies here:

Mine only itch when they need a'washin'. I have lots of old finger rings in there too. I was trying to make a stash pocket but I gave up in '99. Still working on my proptotype dred-restraint compression hat... ubbidea

i want dreads, but i keep botteling out and having wool wraps done instead, just as cool, not so permanent, and plus with my job, they would be full of hay and straw all the time, maybe one day i will get brave enough and have them done smile

I'm blushing! Do any other dreddies just water the ropes down instead of covering them? Tying and covering is the most tedious bit about fire spinning! They're just... so...big! Are olives a condiment?

Good, I wouldn't know what to do! I only have one dread (I couldn't help it, and can't wait for my friend to come back from holidays to dread me up ^^) (Oh, and I named him Trystan. Boom baby biggrin)

I wouldn't want to wet them each time when you light up... Too much hassle in my eyes! could you just braid them a bit, so that they stay together? I mean, my poi don't hit me in the head when they're on fire... But I guess they might get a little singed just from the sheer size and length of your dreadles!

I doubt that was any help to you at all, but it was worth a try!
