As he told the Federal Times last week, "People confuse conduct and sexual orientation as the same thing, and I don't think they are." So while you can't be fired for bringing your same-sex partner to the office picnic, you can be fired for being gay.

*sigh* When will they get it?

Jeeeeeezoos!! How are there people like this Bloch character in positions like this? Obviously trying to use words and changing deffinitions to push his own personal views forward through the legal system. He's not their to guide the public, he is a servant of the public who should bend to the needs of the public.

How much does work like this cost the American public?!?! Shouldn't it be spent doing good not creating insults like this to their tax payers.

Let's relight this forum ubblove

Ok, I see no mention of this on the Human Rights Campaign website. Nor on the ACLU site.

I find it unlikely that a single administrator could overturn a 20-year policy like that.

As terrible as this is, and believe me, I do agree, it is absolutely horrendous, the given article is grossly biased and gives only part of the story.

Looking strictly at the laws, he was legally obligated to remove the protection. Gay and lesbian people aren't covered under the US civil rights laws, so they can't be specifically corrected.

Not only that, he's issued a review on the case as well - I believe he is against his own ruling as much as anyone else is, but it is his legal obligation to remove the protection.

I'd also like to voice my opinion about the blatant Bush bashing on these forums - he's a terrible political person, makes a ton of stupid calls in my opinion, and I think there's thousands of people that could do a better job. But that doesn't mean everything that goes wrong in this country is his fault. Stating "chalk another one up for Bush" after every single thing that goes wrong in the country is just as bad as his rediculous statements that Clinton is to blame for our current situation. I think that if someone came on these forums and blindly attacked the democratic candidate/president, you'd all be offended... as would I. My mother is very much guilty of being on the Bush Bashing Squad, and it makes me cringe every time I hear her being so damned hypocritical.

but on topic, as mentioned, most newspaper articles have a problem giving both sides of the story. does anyone have some good links where there's a different perspective?

https://www.365gay.com/newscon04/03/031704fedWorkers.htm

Pro-gay site (Or so it seems from the few things I've read, don't blame me if I'm wrong) which states his actions weren't exactly evil in nature. It sucks, of course, and I think everyone here would agree it is a terrible incident, but his job is not to impose his own or anyone else's morals upon the law, but rather to rule by the laws.

Now I'm totally confused.

See this is the kind of thread that WOULD have been in "Political" but now has been merged and I CERTAINLY thought it would now be in "Social Discussion" rather than "Social Chat"... but then again, I'm no moderator.

Or should I have posted this post in "Social Discussion" as it is a Discussion of a Chat topic?

Are we posting our Bush Bashing under "Chat" or "Discussion"? Cuz being that I live in one of the most Liberal places on Earth (Which I do believe the East Village of New York City to be) I occationally like to take a break from my Bush Bashing to do thinks like eat and brush my teeth and discuss how my Poi friends are doing.

And when will there be a forum where we can fight each other through our computer interfaces like the Matirx? I think HoP should work on that too.

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

Hey NYC,

I didnt think there would be anything more than 1-liners posted to this topic, so I figured it belonged in Social Chat smile I wasnt even attempting to start a conversation - just sharing a link I was passed by a friend.

Perhaps you can single handedly raise the intellectual level of the discussion enough to have the thread graduate to social Discussion? wink
