Nope, no style really, just a combination of transferred staff/poi moves and poncing about... wink

I've been on a mission that "anything you can do with poi you can do with double staff" (apart from the obvious loops and wraps and stuff), so a pair of swords is nice because they're missing the other end biggrin

Yeah - I've been mixing up poi and double broadsword stuff.
Lots of weaves & butterfly stuff.

Interesting point about the stabbing motion burning your arm hair - never thought of that but can see it happening very easily.

Just finished prototype sword and glaive for Gnor. Learning lots.

See piccie at https://members.iinet.net.au/~bill/fantasy/fireblades.html

Single edge one-handed sword. Guard has knuckle bow to protect hand (limits flourishes though). Made from springsteel forged blade. Fuller (blood groove to the masses) has four pairs of small holes drilled. 2 layers kevlar wicking secured with wire staples. Holding well, fights fine. More info as we play. Photos of the glaive to come. More pics of the sword too.

Cheers,
Bill...

If found wandering please return to Gnor.

nice one! Love the handle as well, is that leather sewn over a twisted metal handle?

Glad you like it. Makes a good grip even if you get some fuel on the handle.

To summarise the handle.
Full tang through to end of pommel and rivetted over.
Wooden plates shaped and glued in place.
Cord wrapped around in spiral pattern and glued down. Nice for fingers to grip.
Pig skin stitched in place and hot water used to shrink it in place.

Cheers,

Bill..

Hey y'all - I haven't been too active on the boards, but I thought people on this thread might be interested:

I've been working on some more fire swords - the original ones were 27 inch chinese broadswords (Darn Dao), wrapped with 2 inch kevlar, secured with bailing wire. These have lasted since October.

The one I'm constructing now is an altered 9-ring chinese broadsword - the idea (so far!) is removing the rings, wiring on a double layer of 2 inch kevlar (through the holes), and then maybe putting the rings back in.

Let me know if y'all want pictures of this smile

methinks it's entirely important to cover as much of the blade as possible. even a blunted cutting edge will burn a huge scar. I have a scar from 2 years ago on my arm from a tiny touch of a blade's edge from this(!)

Hmm - learned a thing or 2 about combat fire sword tonight. Heavier, full tang (where the width of the blade goes into the width and length of the handle) swords are infinitely superior to most of the stock types with blades that screw into the handle. duh, howwoward... redface
They'll hold up better in battle, and I actually wouldn't trust the screw-in type at all (although they're much better for non-combat applications due to their lower weight...)

maybe I'll take some pictures of the different fire swords I have tomorrow to show the point.... (hah, no pun intended)

Already is biggrin

Being one solid chunk of metal, it's a bit heavy to swing around with one hand, and the burn time isn't great - maybe 2.5 - 3min, as clocked by musashii - although what do y'all think about stringing rope wick (big thick stuff) through the rings ? (musashii's idea that I haven't had a chance to implement yet...)

that thing is so bangerous!

i though gnorsbill one was about the top of hte mtal swords i have seen so far, (bill yet another amazing sword) but wow that one just seems like it wants to hurt you over playing nicly!

dude, please like bender says be uber carful with that!

i use, or have used a wooden bokken wrapped in wick, like the one strugz has, to sword fire with - Falmouth - The Meet - June 2004 has me doing some poo, but easy fire sword moves in it, and some doubles work when i was teaching spub, thius will give you some idea of what strugz swords look lke..

but be vary careful, like most toys we use, fire swords are very dnagerous, while seeming pretty safe!

please dont hurtyourself!

Thanks for the concern, guys - i would definitely not recommend fireswords to those who haven't studied swords in other realms.
In my mind, firesword demands as much respect as a sharpened sword, such as used in iaido, without that respect, they become much more dangerous.

Nice work with the fire sword on the vid, mech - I'd love to get some of my firesword footage on line - for now, there's only pictures on my picture page.
