Anyone know how I get rid of them? At least one or two pop up at different intervals. I'm pretty sure there isn't a set pattern to them. Is anyone getting them when they open up home of poi or google?
Yay! another one! It says "Wales - The Big Country" and I can win a car!

Eeep - someone's been infected with Spyway methinks

Go to www.lavasoft.de and download Ad-aware - the free version
Run it and it should get rid of them. Some spyware stuff just comes from various websites, others come bundled in downloads with KaZaa (use KaZaa lite) for example smile

Just to reitterate- these pop ups have nothing to do with the Home of Poi site. Home of Poi does not launch any popups.

Kazaa - it's pointless. Well, it has a point, but other programs have sharper ones. If you must have it, try Kazaa lite, which is SpyWare free.

Or even better SoulSeek

However, I'm not going to put a link in with all the new court cases coming through...

But if you find a link, this is important, it's NOT www.soulseek.org - This is a variation of the program with spyware and purposefully built security backdoors - avoid at all costs (Seriously)

I second the emotion that Mr. Pop Up's computer probably has some adware/spyware on it. My last computer had so much spyware on it it was ridiuclous. I kept getting these huge pop-ups that would make you click on things to get rid of them, but they covered the whole page, so you couldn't even get to your task bar. I figured out how to get around that, but still, the pop ups were horrible. Now I'm behind a router and very rarely get pop-ups, and there's no spy-ware anymore either.

On the soulseek/filesharing topic, is that really the best one to go with? Does anyone have any others they like that have no adware/spyware built into them? Other than Kazaa lite of course.

What about bearshare? does that still exist? Does it have spyware?

Does soulseek have an option for you to not share? Because i don't run my computer that often, and I don't run my filesharing program except during the actual time I'm trying to download.

Teehee, cheers for help, turns out it wasn't just spyware! We had about 261??? Virus type objects, now we have about 5 and the computer can operate again!!! Though the comp had to go through a full week nursing process of being rebooted and reinstalled but it worked!
Now I have no pop-ups, no junk mail (spam) etc! WOOHOO!!!! *Touch wood*
