Well, some sort of wax, possibly carnuba. And then some solvents, emollients, and, of course, pigment.

If you go to this website: https://www.eng.buffalo.edu/Courses/ce457_527/ce457_pro/g6_doc.htm

Scroll down a little you will find a list of components found in lipsticks.

Hope that helps.

Surfactant or surface-active agents possess a chemical structure that consists of head and tail components. The hydrophilic head group has strong attraction to solvent or bulk material, while the hydrophobic tail with long chain hydrocarbon behaves oppositely. Distortion of the water structure by surfactant in aggregation or micellation process helps to lower the energy of the system, thus improving the interfacial adsorption. Micelle formation is important due to the thermodynamic stabilization in solution behaving as dispersed species.

Yeah i heard that Lipstick is PURE whale blubber. Apparently they just dye baby whales different "shades" at birth and then when they are big and fat they set to it with a rusty old apple corer and bobs your uncle.....Lipstick! Because your worth it.. or maybe you were born with it?

Actually most lipstics are made synthetically but the companies do continue to kill baby whales.... though it's more for fun than actual purpose. I think they use kittens if they run out of whales though. Or bunnies. I forget.

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

some companies still do testing on animals, rabbits quite often. that's why a number of companies that don't have now started putting "we do not test on animals" on their labels. the testing often consists of pinning the rabbits' eyes open and placing the product in it to see if it does damage. they also shave the animals and do skin testing. it's rather a horrifying process. i did a research report on it once....definately disturbing.

Is this still a topic? Sorry for being late. I was out doing makeup. As it happens.

They do NOT use kittens. That is a myth. Bunnies are used by some companies for the vitamin enzymes but that's being phased out because chimps have a denser concentration and longer half life.

The contents of lipstick actually varies from company to company - different types of wax, oil, preservatives, pigments. If you really need details you should choose a brand and email them. I know Bobbi Brown does this and has a quick turn around time (I've done that myself for foundation). www.bobbibrown.com. I believe they test (or have tested) on animals. For contrast talk to PrettyPretty www.pretty2.com which is cruelty free.
