they're like regular acrylic balls but made denser, or with an impurity or something that makes them catch the light more like crystal, as opposed the the normal 'bubble' look.

thanks guys!

Posted:Hey Tao,

The one's I've seen have all been in Crystal shops (Cyrstal Healing kind of stuff) - and tend to be A) Quartz B) Really Heavy C) Surprisngly easy to chip

They don't for me have the same "wow" factor as a clear acrylic as things like isolations just don't work with movement going on inside the ball. However, in a clear sunny day I can see how they might sparkle...

Other than that - as Glass said - if you get a Polycarb' ball it goes a rather funky colour under UV.

Posted:well i haven't actaully seen them - just heard someone talking about them.

i don't think they're actually made of crystal - i think they might be acrylic but with impurities, so you can actually CJ with them, but they don't look completely clear like normal ones.

hard to explain.

Mmmmmmmmm, beautiful. (For Aussie types, Juggleart in Melbourne has a full range of interesting contact juggling balls, including the UV type.)

Posted:Wow, those UV acrylic balls are spectacular!
Where can I get one of these, and how big do they get?

I don't juggle, but I am into sci-f-, fantasy, and Pagan costuming, and one of these balls would make an awesome prop..Or perhaps two, one held in each hand for dancing:)

Posted:paul and poly,
I only found out cos I got a moderators warning, hence the edits above
but yea, like you, I also forgot that main purpose of this site is not a forum,
it is primarily a BUSINESS, it is a poi and juggling equipment shop.

Links to shops that sell products which are in direct competition with HOP is a breach of statutory HOP regulation no. 6523i and punishable by spacing (:LOL:B5GEEK) - "Please note that advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are inappropriate on this BB." (see the code of conduct) biggrin

In that light, I recommend that this fine shop sell acrylics:
https://www.homeofpoi.com/shop/details.asp?prodid=1012&cat=2100&path=2000,2100
br>the balls are IMO too small (see below), and I can't coment on the tint (see belower) cos I have never seen them
although based on past experience, I expect the quality and service to be impecable. thus allowing you to contribute to the funding of this forum.

although HOP does not sell acrylics that are large enough to be nice to play with for anyone bigger hands than miss tao star, playing multiball, and even then I still think that they are too small
(unless your playing 6 in 1 hand, and I only know 2 people who do that, then for me I would still go for 65 or 68mm because bigger and slower looks better.) and that HOP does not sell sparkly contact ball or UV or colours. These are products which are in competition with products sold on S-HOP.

You might want to discuss it by PM, IRL or on a non-comemcial forum.
PM me for details.
basically this is a - we all have to be careful because we're treading a very fine line, warning.
On the upside, you can link the picture, or tell folk in a pm or suggest that they do a search on google for "x,y and zee"

what contact balls consumer guide update

Clearness of the ball/tint in clear balls:
Even though supposidly clar and uncoloured, clear balls are only 96-98%+ clear, that other 2-4% has a colour,
what you don't want is my old set which are a really grey tint, and do not have the same magic as really good clear balls.
My 4" that i bought in london is the greyest coloured ball on the planet, I really regret that, and because these things last for 10 years
I recommend you always buy the very best you can get. and really look out for and avoid grey tint, cos one day you'll put it next to a clear ball and you won't love it as much after that.
I now have some very very good suppliers.

A guide to pricing for uk bods:
I don't buy any in the UK nowdays, I always buy when I'm out of the country because I get better quality and a lower price. although they may have improved recently, I haven't been to a juggling shop for 6 months:

top quality clear 2.5" (63.5mm) - I would expect to see in the shops for 15USD or 14GBP
at conventions this would go down to 12GBP each.

3" ultra clear for 25USD or 24 GBP for ultra clear (if you can get them) BUT 20GBP in conventions.
and for colours, sparkly and UV's, pricing gets a bit random.
