yo,

just another variation you might find intresting...

forwards side plane, poi comes across the back and wraps over opposite shoulder. Let poi go, depending on angle poi with weither shoot forward or straight down. I like the down version cos it looks kinda tracer like, but in reverse (head first). for added fun, both poi at once!

be warned, easy to end up suiciding over the ears, amusing with ball chain, less so with wire.

suggestions where to go once you catch them? maybe a nice double body tracer? Rev?

If it's what I'm thinking of where the chain bumps off and flips round, I know what you mean. I've only done it off the bottom of my thigh though.

The suicide does sound cool

same idea, but backwards....

and how about inverse? wrap around the thighs (front or back) let go for the suicide straight up. anyone? maybe you can time this so it goes up the back then falls over the shoulder...... lovelyness....

So what are you calling suicide? The chain bump or something near the head?

sorry, right, sicide:

any move where the chain wraps around a body part (or other poi, or innocent bystander, or innanimate object) and released from the hand. suicides can stay wrapped before caught (e.g. no hand weave) or can fly off the said item and be caught again. All the suicides desribed above are of the latter variety.

on a litghter note, and for the true super-fast jedi types out there, double horisontal torso suicides? anyone? I shure as hell cant catch them! ubbloco

*bump*

so an airwrap suicide is...

fwd weave, airwrapping on the left, letting go of the rhp for one beat then catching it again, and doing a lovely hyperloop and exiting on the right (or just exiting the airwrap on the left)...

...?

those that know, dont say. those that say, dont know.

that one way, the other is to let go of the poi, it flies out of the airwrap and is caught seperatly.

umm

A lovely example of words getting in the way smile

I'd describe the first moves "suicides over the body" as contact poi, and the latter: "it flies out of the airwrap and is caught seperatly" as a hyperloop throw (not a whip toss as it's not caught out the air)

Ahhhhhhh words eh? wink

but those terms came later mr durbs...

hindsight it seems is indeed 20/20 wink

'suicide', used to describe a wrap with a release and catch, was first used here back in 2001/2 yet the term 'contact poi' wasn't coined until late in 2004 (a good few months after this very post as well).

it kinda follows then, that if you wrap the poi around each other, let go and catch that you might have ended up[ calling them airwrap/hyperloop suicides.

thanks man - that backs up what i said nicely biggrin

in that linked thread, you defined 'contact poi' as:

"the idea is to keep the circle of fire going in the same plane and size etc and then you move round it. If done properly it should look weird as you'd be moving around the circle in various ways."

but in this thread you say:

"I'd describe the first moves "suicides over the body" as contact poi"

it seems the meaning of your term 'contact poi' changed at some point and came to describe a similar thing as 'suicide wraps' already did...?

probably around about 2004ish i'd say wink

that thread you started and linked to above describes what i used to call an isolated weave.

until i found out what an isolation with poi was of course...

stupid words rolleyes

as for newbies...

is it water? or maybe eau? perhaps hydro? but that guy was saying it was h2o... huh.... either way, suicides sound like they'd be a cooler maneuver than contact poi... personally, I think the egg and the chicken both came out of the ocean within a couple years of eachother. which came first? It really doesn't matter does it.

Anyhoo - "proper" contact poi is very cool, my sh!t contact poi back in 2002 wasn't.
Suicides still aren't a good name though... IMHO tongue
