Just read in the next video comp thread someone saying that they love Canadians.

While it's nothing to get all angsty about, isn't that just as rascist/bigotted as saying you hate canadians?

If you made that blanket statement and some angry, annoying smelling Canadian came up to you and wanted to be friends, but also wanted you to lend him money and stop seeing your family and current friends? Would you even consider sticking to it?

Just wondering how others see this type of "positive" bias...

I'm sorry.. but I kind of take offense to that. It was a friggin joke.

I realize it was an open statement that prob. doesn't have TOTAL truth to it cause i've never met EVERY Canadian in Canada.

I'm a twenty year old college student and I'm very anti racism. To even suggest that I've had intentions of equivicating my statement to racism is not right. You have twisted a friendly gesture into suggesting something negative. If it helps, I take back my "racist" statement. I do not love ALL Canadians.. I like the MANY Canadians that I have met. I enjoy being in the places in Canada that I have been to. Maybe some day I will live there because I LIKE the places I have been to.

Please think again about who you call a Biggot. They might find it difficult to not get "angsty"

You might think that I've blown this out of proportion, but I am truly offended.

If you're offended why did you put a wink smilie at the end of it? You should put a grr smilie, surely?

A wink kind of says "ooh, actually I'm just joshing with you..."

Now, you see, the reason people like Canadians is because whenever Canadians are being jerks, people jump to the conclusion that they're Americans.

Yep, Americans get discriminated against a lot. There are many Canadians that are arrogant and rude. There are many Americans that are nice and tolerant. It's all about the reputation.

I'm canadian, and I never rush to meet canadians when I'm travelling. I don't get along with most of them, and usually I find them to be anal-retentive, elitist, loud, self-righteous, ignorant, arrogant and far too proud.

I've met and observed loads of Canadians who carry with them every quality that everyone finds so annoying about Americans, only they do it while proudly proclaiming how great it is that they're NOT Americans.

In general though, I try my best not to judge someone until they've given away some of the signs of those qualities. Like one girl I met from Manitoba who thought it was impressive that the black people in London can speak with the british accent.

Of course, I also met an american who thought Bush was a good and fair leader and full of smarts, that one was more shocking to be honest.

Herm...interesting question Charles. Is positive rascism possible? Wouldn't that be then called favoritism? Unless you are discussing your own country which is then patriotism?

Thing is, racisim has such a negative connotation, and when saying something positive no one wants to have it affiliated with such a negative term, so then it becomes somewhat paradoxical.

I think a statment such as that is only "racist" if someone were to say "I love only Canadians." Then it would be offensive to other nations. I base my opinions on what I know. I "know" people from New Zealand and they are wonderful, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that I love all New Zealanders.

No matter what country you live in people are going to be people. There will always be jerks, sweeties, a*&holes, egotists, beautiful ones...the full gambit. That is the fault of humanity, or maybe the strength in difference, and not the result of geographic locale.

Welcome Matt, my apologies for any offense I may have caused, I should have been less specific about where my idea came from.

I realised it was a joke and also neglected to mention your name directly. My intention was to actually bring up the last sentence on my post as the main question...In retrospect I should have left all the previous information out completely.

I was defintely not accusing anyone of being rascist, but wished to bring up the "positive bias" question in a way that will make others read it.

I'll be happy to reword or delete anything in this thread at your request.

Feel free to email me directly aboutt his if you wish.

My apologies...
