Mech, you can make me sticks, but they have to be three footers, and thin like, with dowel and censored. In fact, I'll watch while you make them. Then decide if I want them. wink biggrin

well, did you make bens? Cos they were, lets say: not perfect. Thinner than an inch metal tube for a start. 22mm or less would be good. Dowel underneath the wicks at each end, some kind of metal cap over the towel to stop it burning. Some kind of insulating layer underneath the wicks to stop their conduction of heat onto the metal. (Balsa wook, with mastic sealant and aluminum flashing tape was what I was thinking of, but I would prefer something more fire resistant, like the ceramic compound they use on the nasa space shuttle.) Air holes to cool the metal - staggered (about 4 inchs away from each wick) Some kind of ring, hoop or bolt to allow chains to be attached to the ends of each stick would be nice. (But not essential...)

oh and a small wire tied/glue around the metal close to the wick, hopefully with some pointy bits on it, for the paraffin to drip off, rather than running down the staff onto the handle. (A kind of spiky collar)

Other than that, a 6 inch catherdral / concertina wick on each end would be cool .

A hockey / squash racket grip or leather or bicycle grip.

That would be a good stick... ubbrollsmile

so you would like a stick like one of the ones i use for shows?

they rarly come out, and i am a lil worried about releaseing them for sale....

plus bens were made to his specs,

- i use a 1 inch tube (persoannly better feel)
- 6inch, 4incn and 2 inch wichs
- tripple screwed
- air vent, for and aft or teh wick
- silican sealant on teh end of the core which sits a lil shy of the total wick length
- metal caps in place and squeased in place to hold tips of wood safly

- and active grips from a racket, or a cloth grip, for extra securtity,
- center point raised using tape to make sure you knwo where is it by touch
- hoops in each end through the cap for wither extra wick, or poi, or sparklers, or glow sticks you knwo anything you like

hmmm sexy ticks

all in one of my sticks, var the drip gaurd, as im unsure of who you would like it made, as i thin i would use 4, not one to stop drips
but i like the way you are thinking mcp

talk dirty to me some more wink

not even dunc has seen my hot shot sticks

in fact i have no idea where they are

can you send me a diagram of what you are talking about the drip gaurd pls?

pm me an addy and ill send you teh way im talking about one?

Mech your a legend.

I tought mcp was joking with all that stuff.

have you though about putting together some diagrams and sharing your knowledge. My sticks are basic and functional (they spin round like) but they dont got none o that cool stuff.

what do i have to do to tempt you (and every other spinner in the uk) to come up to ed on jan?

nothing

i might come up and just show mcp my staff and not let her touch it biggrin

that would be fun

the air vents, and silicone dont always work to well, that sfatt still heat, due to folame acn move more than you think whole you are playing

and to keep the integrity of the matal tube, you cant cut more than a certain chunk out, esp if you dont wish to strain the metal with extra weight on the from poi heads

most of this is new for me, i have only made this tsaff a while back, not really had it out and played, not played in a long time to be honest!

mcp you make your own sticks no?

how come you have not put into efect all you have said beofre?

and as for releasing spec, no im fine thanks, unti,l i have some more prototypes i wanna make, like my glow staff *drool*

then im very much ok

I do make sticks some times. But money is my main problem. Buying stuff is hard to do when you have zero money, and when you do get money you have about a million things to spend it on. Recently I got money but I am going to spend it on a gym member ship. So I can learn to pose better. biggrin

- I prefer 22mm cos my first staff was that wide.

- I think concertina / catherdral wicks would get rid of all heat transfer problems because only a metal bolt would connect wick to staff. ANd you could just stick wood between the wick and the staff... (appropraitely fireproofed / covered in aluminium flashing tape)

- I wouldn't use silicon sealant for doing anything on a staff, due to the fact that I don't know anything about its heat characteristics and I know it stinks when at room temp, so I wonder about the fumes when it's hot.

- triple screwed is fine, As long as you use washers / cups on the top of the wick to provide better force distribution.

- my air vents would be drilled holes, staggered to stop massive weakening of the staff.

I have no idea what you mean by the hoops. Describe.

For a collar, ideally you want a rough spike that isn't sharp with outward, and slightly downward facing spikes. It would have to be made of metal to avoid burning. A few coils of wire after it toward the centre of the staff to allow you hand to know it was approaching the spiky bit would be good too. The wire / spikes would have to be made of something VERY non-conductive.

That enough info?

*prints and goes home to play with his remaining six meters of ali.

do you want me to bring some of this cheap stuff over on the 20th?

I'll scan the catalogue page if you want.

i like 22mm also, but i used 19mm on my 100cm doubles because its lighter and easier to manage with one hand. I cant get balsa wood dowel either. pine does the job grand.

O ooooooooo!!

Catalogue page!

yeah yeah yeah yeah!

I didn't mean balsa wood dowel, I meant balsa wood sheets to wrap round the tube of the staff to act as a non-conductive layer. (Balsa wood is the only wood I know that can we wrapped like that.) Yeah we use whatever dowel homebase has for staffs. The more closely fitting the better.

Yeah when you get down to small non-contact sticks the width doesn't matter quite so much.

Is the cheap stuff the stuff that bends? Can I place an order with you that you can bring over... oooohohohohoohho sooo exciting!!

Mech, it's beacuse you never show people you're staff that they keep asking for better ones... tongue
