right,

yes durbs, ill be there, Ill be the guy bouncing about with red poi and practicing isolated fountains. or dropping 5 balls.

for some clarification.

as far as we see it, a three beat buzzsaw weave works like this.

normally in the weave one hand dose one beat above (the opposite hand) one beat below and one beat back at its respective side.

A buzzsaw weave is when you take this last beat that normally happens on the same side the hand is on, and make it buzzsaw. So for forwards one hand goes over the other, under it and then to buzzsaw to come back to the top. When this is done with both arms its like doing the weave with your arms crossed, comming into buzzsaw to continue the weave.

a full sequence looks like: r-hand over, l-hand buzzsaw, r-hand under, l-hand over, r-hand buzzsaw, l-hand under, r-hand over and continue.

however im really a bit confused about the 5 beat version, any help?

spin a 5bt weave.

on the right hand side do the wrist twist and instead of the poi in your right hand leading across to the other side of the body, make it lead into buzzsaw.

as your wrists are wrapped around each other this will put you into crossarm buzzsaw, so you have to isolate round your arms a bit to come out the other side without tangling.

then twist the wrists on the other side and go back using your left poi to lead into buzzsaw, across and out to the left hand side.

see if ya can learn it by tonight wink

ok, challenge accepted.

the bit that bugs me though is not going in crossed, i was doing that before, its the extra beat of the weave, the beat that would normally hang back on its respective side whilst the other would cross to its respective side, are all thease beats inside?

eg. on the left hand side forwards, right leading:

r-over, l-invert, r-under, l- invert, right invert (crossarmed), l-over (on right side), r-invert, l-under, r invert, l-invert, r-over? there seems to be too many inside beats... confused

depends how many beats you want inverted i think.

i don't really get the beat-by-beat hand position descriptions - i get lost!

*still can't count*

looking at the 3bt version, do you see you could consider that it is the 1st beat that is inverted?
(i.e. i start counting on the first crossed over beat)
obviously there are no actual numbered beats but this is the way it makes sense to me.

using this same couting method on the 5 beat (or at least the version i do) it would be just the 1st *and* 2nd beats that are inverted.

I'm not sure where to count inverted beats either.. I thought maybe I could take the starting point and see how much it took me to get there.. but I don't want to count outside beats.. and the underarm thing works sometimes, but then isn't it still going outside hjust coming up in thew buzzsaw different..

I dunno.. all this inverted stuff has inverted my brain..

Ok, to end it all I made a video of what I believe to be the 3 beat buzzsaw weave.

Hope this helps someone.

I think I'm like this close to doing what's in that video and it looks lovely, but I'm twisting and untwisting the poi. Is there a catch to doing it totally without either wrapping or twisting the poi? I guess I just have to move my arms round each other quicker?

I think what I'm doing is probably some kind of hyperloop in the middle of the weave, looks weirdy weird if you pull your hands apart, but it ends up having the same effect.

aha, I've got it now at least in one direction.

Found two other ways to do something similar during this though

Too slow = wrap round wrists
Hands too wide = hyperloop

Just right = twirly hands round just in time to get them out of the way.
