I am looking for a lightweight (kite like) fabric that a wick can be connected to an not be burned. I have tried some of the Kevlar companies and they have been less than helpful. If anyone knows of a such fabric or leads to such a fabric please hook me up.The flame won't really be touching it but it will be in close proximity. I am thinking hot air balloon material or parachute.

Kelvar would be the route to go. I'm surprised you had bad luck with the kevlar companies you contacted--is it just that they were they not willing to sell in small quantities? If that's the issue, call Aircraft Spruce (www.aircraftspruce.com). They sell kevlar sheets used in fiberglass layup, and in small quantities. It's a little heavier, and a looser weave, than the lightweight nylon used in kites, but should suffice.

Just thought I'd revive the oldest, most tired and un-looked-at thread I could find.
