make sure to watch the test video. He did that at a full sprint and it's perfectly smooth except for some side to side shake now and then and that's because he only used one hand https://www.student.virginia.edu/~fms-uva/steadycam/

Yep, i did Think ill give it a go once i'm back
home & have access to my workbench again (mmm finally build some new toys )

Always wondered how steadycams work and din't realise that most of the stabilisation comes from sheer weight (distribution).. Does anyone know how the more sophisticated ones work with springs etc .. "..stuff with all the fancy shocks and hydraulics.." ??

Thanks for the link Astar ,

Mike

Nice, nice, nice, etc.

Cheers Astar, that is one seriously cool link.

Shame I don't have a camera to use

As soon as I have the funds I'll build one, then I'll be missioning to get a camera

*Oh, just for a minute,* my bed said.
"Don't lie to me," I grumbled.
*But you're so tired...*

<---how steadicams work.

The plans to build this one is actually more how to build a steadi cam juniour which just a baby steadi cam with no vest or crazy arm thing. The company sells them for like $300 USD and as far as I can tell one made out of pipes and weights seems to work just as well.

I made one from those instructions except I used black poly pipe rather than galvanised steel.. Cheaper and easier for me to get.

I use it mainly for tracking shots in other projects. Never used it with fire footage before, I tend to do that with tripod. smile

So much fire, so little body hair...
