We all know the US military is damn good at hruting and causing damage to things and people, but did you know that there are somethings out there that you use, that I would bet that you dont know came from military technology. I would even bet that some of you have benifited from this stuff!

Anyone ever been in a car accident and had the airbag go off?

Well there is a little sensor in your car, called an excellirometer. Originally used in missles, this divice senced the acceloration of a missle and told it when to arm itself. There is a similer divice in your car that does the opposite. It sences a rapid deceloration, like what happens in a colision, and deploys your air bag.

One of many things invented by the military that is used to save the lives of millions of people world wide.

And if we used all the money wasted on actually building these missles for even more research and good causes we'd be able to do nice things like feed hungry people and cure cancer.

Sorry, but if you donate to charity, help old ladies across the road, then go on a murderous rampage you're still a murderer.

Anyway, we were talking at work today how much we have to thank the porn indusry for. The initial growth of the internet infrastructure and internet technologies (e.g. Real meida, chat, etc...) was driven and paid for my porn.

Your right Dom, imagine if everyone who made more than 100k a year put all but 100k a year to cancer reseach! Wow imagine where we would be then.

Unfortunatly the whole world doesnt believe in pacifisim. You could argue that more would die without the military. Personally I believe that the military, though causes death, in the long run prevents more deaths from happening.

If the Corps didnt need to be here, that would be great. Reality of the matter is, it just aint that way.

Anyhow lets stay on topic ehh?

the standard of today's aeroplanes and airline network probably wouldn't be where it is today without the developments made during the build-up to and fighting of the first and second world wars.

like dom said (and you misinterprteted there i'm afraid ray), it's sad that the world's governments have needed to plough more money into 'killing' research than into 'saving' research.

having said that, i like the internet.
i like kevlar.
i like icbm's. shit! no sorry, i mean i like airbags and aeroplanes.

tell ya what would be an interesting statistic:
total number of people ever saved by an airbag set off by an accelerometer against total number of people ever killed by missiles armed using an accelerometer.

Well... no I understood what he meant perfectly. Frankly I think that money for finding cures and what not should be given by all people not just governments. Thats what I was trying to convey, sorry you didnt understand that.

However you are right that it is sad that more money is put into killing than saving. That I will agree with 100%

When I hear of more military firsts I will post them, then when I have listed them all... then we can compair and contrast what has done more

i understood fine in this case dude - where do you think governments get their money from ray?
who does every working person pay taxes to again...?

so if the government spends money on missiles we all are spending money on missiles.
and if the government spends money on finding cures and what not, we are all spending money on it.

What about everybody's good friend... Duck Tape

Ok so it wasn't developed by the military, but the military was in need of something that would make quick repairs and was waterproof. So 3M helped develope it.

Ta-Da! Duck Tape!

Frosty, the US is a democracy, meaning that you vote for the person who you think would best follow your wishes. They dont always do this.

You dont get a say in every single choice ever made by the Gov. Sorry, personally I dont know a government like that.

Who are you to speek for everyone?

Personally I aint worried about the french or spanish, lets just say that in the past century neither have done too good. Germans, bah! Little cocky aint I?
