Now look, it says very clearly on the list of forums that this is the Temporary Discussion Area, but there are NO discussions about the nature of time. So i'm making one.
Time confuses me for several reasons
1. you can't poke it with a stick.
2. we all seem to be moving along it at the same speed but...
3. when i try to think about how 'fast' we are moving in time, without reference to time to determine speed, my brain stops working and starts thinking about iced buns instead.
4. did i say several reasons? um...
5. how small does time go till you get to an indivisible elementary particle of time, eh? eh?
6. if the answer to the last one is 'infinitely small' then what sense does 'now' make, eh? eh?
7. is the future already there, or does it get made as it happens?
um yeah.
So anyone want to give me some of their time?
(go on Dom, i've forgotten how your theory that time doesn't exist actually went )
and finally, to fit in with the rest of this Forum, i'd like to blame the USA for its abuse of time and general temporal irresponsibility

I always thought time was a chocolate bar
Then I tried eating it and my teeth went all tingly.
The confusing thing about time is this:
as we measure it with our own numbers - the whole thing falls apart when you take it outside of this. So if you said "See you next year" to someone on mars - they'd be late
Did you know the Aboriginies have no word for "tomorrow"
(On a similair note, Zulu's don't have numbers past 5)

i would like to draw attention to the fact that this load of silly rubbish on the nature of time is in the Social Discussion forum when perhaps it should be in the Social Chat forum.

You told me what you did in replying to this thread twice
erm.. yesterday......now is a time loop created by me, in order to replay the previous days events, but changing my actons so I will eventually take over the world as I will knows what will happen tomrrow.
With the tomorrow never have actually taken place, but it will be yesterdays memories simply superseeding the future surely?

I think this thread belongs in Social Chat. I'm not sure why its lasted so long in this area.
I opened it becuase I read an interesting article about quantum particles becoming entangled across time, but I see that it wouldnt actually be appropriate to discuss anything sensible in this thread.

Sounds much like the movie "The butterfly effect".... or atleast I think so... I only saw the trailer yesterday...now as well...

hasn't the butterfly effect got to do with mulitplying reprecussions rather than time?
i.e. that a butterfly flapping it's wings in oz causes a tornado in a cow feild in shropshire...

Is the butterfly effect similar to the grandparent paradox?
If the space/time continuum is really just a rubber sheet, then what would happen if i used it like a trampoline?
If there is no tomorrow, which there isnt, cos it hasnt happened yet, and there is no present, because when i say now is the present, then it isnt because the present was after i said now, or something, and there is no past, then.. oh no, ive gone crosseyed.
