Hey
I have only been doing poi now for a month so im going to give you my 2 cents

when i first started i used chain and the chain wraped around my wrist and i craped myself so i decided to go with cord...a week later when i was shown properly how to use poi i went back to Chains...found it much easier to use

All i can say is try both out and see what you like best, cause you are the one who will buy and use so please yourself

I'd say chain is a bit better than wire, but ballchain is the lord and master of all it surveys (translation: its rather good)

And as for wicks, cathedral wicks (the square ones) burn for longer than tubecores (the round ones) of the same size.

But IMHO cathedrals can be a little bit more awkward and prone to hit stuff slightly more easily. Only very slightly tho'.

I'd go for some fairly light cathedral wicks on ballchain personally.
