Saturday the 23 of november, I'm going to have a show at Metropolis, a giant rave-event here in Norway. More info @ www.metropolis.as
The crowd is going to be between 6-8000 people...
And I'm really nervous!!
I have done a show in front of 600 people and that was not a problem, but I feel that this is something else..
I need some tips on how to prepare my-self,
how to act on the stage,
and what in the world should I charge??
My act will only consist of fire-poi, and it will last around 7-8 minutes.
Because of the size of the arrangement, I'm considering to charge around 90 US dollars...
Anyone who think diffrent?
This show will help me spreading the art of fire-spinning here in Norway.
I'm also considering starting a poi-school in my home-town.. Maybe building a little poi-community...

no realy man, it's all good! I am sure you will do fine. Just focus on the fire, ignore the audience till the flames are out. then give a big bow. they will love it!

I really think there's no difference between performing for 600 or 6000... Regardless of how many people are watching, I have no doubt that you always do the very best you possibly can!
All you can do is give it 100%, you know.
You may find a larger audience less terrifying actually - I know I do! It's more of a rush than anything; so the unadulterated bliss of having a large audience certainly outweighs any nerves or fear.
My advice to you: LOTS of energy; love what you do and make sure the people watching you see that you love what you do. It's infectious.

You are giving them a gift. Be proud, self confident, and show it. Take up all the room you have. Get some cheap pyrotechnics like smoke pots and have a Wizard of Oz like entrance. And have a kick-ass routine prepared with a beginning, a middle and a climax. Work with a choreographer if you have to, Don't just walk out there, ignoring the audience and freeform spinning until your poi go out.
The money seems right.

A bigger crowd is less personal, it's a mass you're performing for, not a group of individuals. The trick, which has been stated, is to make them think it's personal.

As far as money goes, for such a large event I think you may be leaning a little towards the "not enough" side. Are you having to travel to this gig? If yes, they should cover it. hope it went well. For what its worth I did my first public performance tonight too, infront of about 500 people.

Me, myself on a stage in front of 5000 raving people, two fire-breathers on each side which breathes huge jets of fire, and in the middle, little me spinning fire like I never spun before..
It was exhilirating!!

They sell dog-leashes, swivels, and everything you need to make poi-chains! Both string and chains. And they are all designed to have a 20 kg pulling dog at the end of it, so they don't break easily...
