In regards to the free "COL4 Video" that the submitters recieve (and the two free videos that the used submitters get) Can we choose to recieve it in DVD or VHS? Or for the submitions that get used, a combination of the two (one VHS, one DVD) or two DVD...? I only ask because I recently got a DVD player too, and I figured it might be cool to try out a DVD version. If so, maybe we could all choose the format we want to recieve. Not all people have VHS players and not all people have DVD players.

I guess I figured a DVD would be cheaper than a vhs, but I don't know the prices of such things...

Thanks for responding

To be honest, I would be happy with anything

You don't even want to know how much it costs to set up the glass-master disk you need to make DVD's of reasonable quality and quantity in a short space of time.

you DO NOT want to know...

Glass DVDs...cooooooooool.

I know that glass records and the like have been around for a while but I still find any kind of transparent data medium undescribably slick. The future is here!

what WLL they think of next?

I read somewhere that they are starting to make fire wicks out of the same stuff that bullet proof vests are made out of...kevlar

They're even starting to make car bodies out of injection-molded polycarbonate... plastics and glass products are the way of the future I tell you!

Anyone know whether they're having any luck using a crystal matrix for data storage yet? Think 3 dimensions instead of just a cd with a 2-dimensional engraved surface... hooooooooooo video cube will rock my world.

Well, if we want them to part of the future, we better find a new way to make plastic that doesn't involve the limited oil supply...

History will remember plastic and all oil releted products as a stupid mistake that caused more trouble(and wars) than it was worth!
Hemp is the answer!!!
Hemp food products, clothing products and even hemp plastic that no one had to raid Iraq for or terrorise Afganastan to produce.
Although the Hindy cush mountins have a lot of hemp history... mmmm mmm mm m .

My main man Dj Dany Tana, I actually am fairly certain that fire kevlar wick has bin being used for at least the past four or five years now,. but if i were you i would not seek bullet protection from your fire gear. even though bullet proof vests r made of kevlar.

Hey I always thought DJ Tana was danny tanners daughter?

Is this you?

I always loved the olsen twins personally, I cant wait till they r ova 16

we've just got the 3rd season of full house in new zealand and its going off!! mate!!

Twistey, only you could get from fire wick to an obsession like that eeeeeeeeeewwwww

As for kevlar being used for bullet0proofing. Yes it is. But only a certain type and a certain weave of cloth, it looks more like cotton wool than the wicks we use.

It's also a highly restricted substance, as I found out when i was trying to source it myself in NZ.

I'm now on the Wanganui computer (NZ mainframe of criminals and suspects) because of my enquiries.

the kevlar that is famous works by stopping bullets BUT it's special bullet-stopping ability is also to do with it's texture, cus modern bullets spin from the 'rifling' effect, and bullet-proofing kevlar's texture acts like a velcro to bullets that are not teflon coated.

but this special ability of bulletproofing kevlar's texture doesn't apply to wicking kevlar.
that is more to do with adamantium in the wicks.

actually, wicking kevlar is rather delicate in the way the threads are twisted up. I belive realy kevlar (fom vests) has much better tensile strength.

Perhaps, but tensile strength has nothing to do with stopping a small fast projectile from penetrating through a layer.

but I know what you mean...the two types of weave are completely different and made for different reasons.

I think a lot of people believe that kevlar wick is designed for fire spinning without realising it suits all sorts of different purposes which were what is was originally designed for.

Actually, I believe tensile strength is very important, without it the bullet would just pass right on through (with pieces of kevlar stuck to it). With a high tensile stregth the impact force is distributed over a larger area.

its not that attall actually dan, the kevlar is really sticky, and actually clings to a spinning bullet, taking the force out of it that way, think about it, it cant diffuse inpact velocity by spreading the force because its flexible. Helmets and vestd have two parts, a hard generally ceramic layer to absorb the point-inpact and kevlar to actually stop the bullet.

what good wold it do to stick to the bullet if the thread was weak and broke as the bullet hit it. you would just have a bullet covered in kevlar that would just keep right on going.

I'm going to do an internet search on this...stay tuned...

go to it, its not that its weak, its something about the property of kevlar fibre itself....

Nice pun, Toxic...good to see a Cantabrian gracing the boards too.

I'd like to say all sorts of things about shooting each other not actually helping people to know how vest works...just like knowing how to drive a car doesn't teach you how a combustion engine works, but I thought better of it.

Welcome to the boards!
