On the subject of music - might i say that as shameless raver, I am a picky B___h about music and was well pleased with the music - quite un-unoriginal!
LOVE the first song - a great tracey way to start a nice video.
A few performance pieces really keep the 'crowd-pleaser' atmosphere aloft!
the production is sooo nice too, with letterboxing applied to conceal video autodating (sorry malcolm!) and superimposed video mayhem! artfully does the firetwirling justice.
Damn i got excited watching it - then again I always have a quickened pulse watching the COL series. I have finally matured past the point whereby I'd nitpick OTHER people 'cus OF COURSE i must be the best twirler in the universe' and realised that deamanding perfection invites similar expeactations on meself. So i enjoy COL so much more and share in the exhiliration of seeing other HoP luverlies strut the stuff that bought us all into contact: FIRE!
TOTAL UNADULTERATED CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE SICK PERFORMERS!
I will name my many children after you all!

All I can say is...WOW

Totally agree with bender (and that hardly ever happens). The whole look and feel of the COL3 is so professional. No wonder it took forever to get it released Malcolm.

I think it's also a tribute to not only the skills of those shown but it shows how much has been learned about videoing fire and glow as well. Compared to the previous video's, this one is light years ahead in both original content (what you guys sent in) and the way it has been mixed.

Can I ask if the cool special effects were all the result of editing? i.e. the fades and the stop motion and the um...er...Blame-it-on-the-boogie shadowing shots?

Or was some of it supplied on tape?

never mind about naming new moves, it seems about 60% of the good ones never made it to the final video...

lemme just dub the one where i throw the chains thru my legs the 'taint flickinz'...too bad the whole thing couldn't fit in the final video cause i did come up with some good names...i guess i will put the whole thing up on our website when i get a chance (probably not till september...)

don't feel bad, Le Skunk. For COL2 I coreographed a run, it took me an hour to get the first half perfect, so I could just Ad-lib the second half, and the first half it didn't even make it onto the video. There where some cool wrap-switches, too. It's all good though. Maybe it just looks better when you make it up as you go.

Well....I saw john's copy last night, it rocked. I loved the contact staff, and the girls, and the fire, and the special effects, and the music. Realy to much to single it all out, so I'll just say....good job everybody! (Thanks for the complement, Nix?) I need to watch it about ten more times before I can absorb all the style in there. I got a little sample, but I need MORE!!!

Hey Malcolm,

I don't want to start throwing unwanted critique around too quickly. Should we start a "feedback" thread?

Because I really do have quite a bit to say. I enjoyed some of the performances but was bothered by a few aspects and am wondering if others were too... I'm not the kind to complain all that often but I felt the need to send some constructive critique.

OK, I'll stop playing diplomatic... here goes:

1) The editing seemed a bit arbitrary. I, of course didn't get to see any of the original tapes but, felt that some really amazing stuff was short and some of the more basic stuff was quite long.

2) I gotta say, the slow motion really bugged me. The whole beauty of poi is lost when it's slowed down. It may look better to the untrained eye with effects and such but I'd really like to see what everyone looked like at full speed. I can always slow it down if I want...

Hats off to the HoP posse for being the only people in the world doing this, and I'm looking forward to COL4, 5, 6,...

Nicely done though, and enjoyable to see some spinners...

PS: WHERE WERE ALL THE CRAP TALKERS THAT CLOG UP THIS BOARD WITH HOW GOOD THEY ARE?! I'm sure we'll be getting lots of excuses... (Had to be said! And no, I didn't send in cuz I dont talk no crap )

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion....

actually, I REALY liked the slow motion, and especialy the time lapse. It is amazing how good you can make a three beat weave look, with a little time lapse and some cool music, and a funky camera angle. And MY VCR doesn't do good slow motion, so I am glad there was some slow-mo in there, especial my part, cause I watched it 20 times at home (the staff part) and I was still having trouble seeing exactly what I was doing, AND I DID IT!!! I don't know if that is good or bad... Maybe when the dvd stuff comes out we can all slow mo at will. But remember, COL is an artistic expresion, We are artists, who send our stuff to another artist (Malcolm) who does a Jimmy hendrix to it (upside down backwards and twisted) and out comes something totaly different than a simple compolation. Slow motion could certainly be overused, but I don't belive it was. IMO

Hey NYC - long time

ummmm, erm, *cough* I didn't hand in a tape cos my dog ate it just after I had spilled a cup of coffee all over it, which was unfortunately just after some magnetic force unbeknownst to me actually erased my entire performance...

The sick wraps (with double staves mind you) had to be seen to be believed and I really do kick a whole lotta arse.

or -

ummmm, erm - didn't hand in tape cos I got made redundant, broke up with my partner of 7 years, couldn't find a new job and stuff... blah blah blah.

Hang on!!! I never talked shit to start with!

Please disregard.

So am I a nobody then, Bender?

Not that I've been doing them for long, but I'm kinda proud of my continous neckwrap wirh doubles (its easier than it looks). the single get's a bit boring now.

It's also fun to do an arm wrap ending in a forearm throw, and um... er... that's about it. Maybe I better look at doing more wraps with my doubles.

Cheers

fire staff deities do not figure into it, cus it's assumed knowledge that the Inferno is mad at all that is doubles! my fave wrap (i do it fast n smooth cus i love it!) is a 6 wrap combo along both legs, bum, waist n neck in both planes ending in a btl butterfly. it's my doubles signature i cannot be bothered to begin explaining her, video to follow. i love double wraps so much that single staff wraps feels silly heaven knows how much practice is necessary to perform double wraps with staves of YOUR dimensions!

Honestly, my wraps with doubles do need a lot more work.

Can I ask if you are talking simultaneous doubles (which i haven't yet achieved) or doing a single wrap while sinning th eother staff somwhere else...?

I was just thinking....I have already watched COL3 at least three times, in the last few days. I have watched COL2 more times than I can count....how many "MOVIES" can be watched like that? I usualy can't stand to watch a movie (even my favorite ones) more than once in a week or a month...even the first time I see tham, I usualy don't want to see them again very soon. So...what does that tell you about the COLs??? Does that mean they rock even more than the best movies?

I must say a big thx and hat off to all the ppl who featured in the video.
There is a lot of fab talent out there and i wish you all the best for the future.
Also was impressed that 4 of my tunes were on the video which made it really special to see some great poi'yers doing there stuff to my music which was great!
Myself and draco was though slightly dissapointed by the part of video which contained Us which although i fully understand that i did send our video in late so can't complain coz at least were on it.
Though it was recorded like 6 months ago and is in no comparison to our skills now. So therefore myself and Draco are disapointed of the clip of ourselves in the video as it shows us to be quite bluntly rather crap in comparison to all the other great talent on the video. Plus there was better stuff of us on the video we sent but hey well at least we are on there
I was also quite confused for how pretty much everyone was spinning fire like a crazy speed freak! This took me a couple of views to see that most of the videos were speeded up;
because if you spun fire at that high velocity it would go out.
This didnt bother me as such and i think it was so more footage could be fitted on the tape so tis understandable and not a moan.
Overall i was impressed with the video and thx to malcolm and the rest of the team that made it possible.
Me and draco shall soon be working on a video to represent our current skil level as so u don't all think that were completely shite lol!!!
thx
