i use about 9ft of quality nilon, non strech rope, locking bolts, chain, tube, core, 2ft of 4inch wick

and then add in making time, and skills and i really dont make much money on them after costs!

Finally found some other people who can use a rope dart, as well as meteor. Yaay.
I should be able to learn something new now, as everyone has different styles.

Its funny how people can (complain) about old threads being re-opened. Although if a new thread was started on the same subject, their thread would be disregarded and they would be told to refer to the old thread.

yeah i agree on the blisters, particlularly on the index finger of the right hand.
i put in some serious practice with rope dart last year before
A: I agreed that some martial arts knowledge would be incredibly handy with learning rope dart
B:I lost my rope dart
i even went as far as to make a little two finger glove to proect my precious finger out of moose skin.
but i gave up on rope dart and learnt to juggle instead

my original signature was tooo long.
this one is shorter

you could try sowing somthing like a silk jacket onto the rope that you know you will be running over your skin, or something like that?

what i would say is that try not to run the rope, as you will then not e staying true to the nature of the weapon, you will get a much better effect and level if you do remeber this is a weapon

or im just rambling and i should go to sleep

a rope dart instructional video that ive got on loan from ataxia has told me to get thicker rope. after using ataxias rope dart with 1/2 inch kevlar on it, its definetly worth the extra cost / weight.

am planning on making fire rope dart once i get some money

cheers, pete biggrin

I use half inch pure kevlar rope, very forgiving on the hands during early learning, but yeah trying not to run the rope through the hand has definit advantages.

what i plan to do is work mainly on wraps and stall, and a couple of jumps and tech moves for people and see what other people have

im hoping to be able to bring some targets down to use for pratctice to get the lines and planes right for people.

Hi all,
There sure are a lot of posts in this thread aint there. Been reading a few of the early ones and have bit of a rant welling up.
There were a few post suggesting that rope darts (and other martial weapons) shouldn’t be 'played' around with or are ripping off disciplines of a martial arts form.
As a martial artists I disagree with this strongly on oh so many levels.

For a start, there is no reason why a non-black belt should not start their weapons training. My old system of Kung Fu had many clubs. My club was thankfully taught by a wise instructor who seeing my interest in weapons taught me and the class. The other classes had to wait until they were black belts before being allowed to touch a staff or spear. In my experience the spear posed no more or less of a threat to me when I was a white belt than when I was black belt. The only difference was that while the other black belt candidates were timid with finally being allowed to use weapons I was more confident and relaxed. While we are often told not to run before we can walk there is no reason why you cant start practicing to swim.

As for ripping off martial arts disciplines. Most of the practical martial arts disciplines don’t have the flashy (but cool) spinning moves as part of their basic principles. You wont believe how many times you can poke someone while they are busy spinning their stick. Instead the spins and flash have been added to the martial arts as an eye-catcher and for performance. The one discipline most guilty of this is Wu-Shu. I don’t mean to offend anyone but every Wu-Shu class I have been to, the empasis has always been on technical acrobatic moves and not technical combat moves. And there is a reason for this. During the Revolution in China traditional martial arts schools were closed and persecuted. Many teachers fled to other countries such as Malaysia. Realizing that China was in dager of losing a big part of its heritage the Peoples party revived Kung fu in such a form where it posed no threat to the party. Ie non-combative, and so was the birth of the sport Wu Shu, which is now more a performance than martial art.
I have used several poi inspired moves in my nine-section whip demos and conversely rope-dart and whip moves in my poi spinning, and don’t think either style comprimised the other.

Sorry there are some things that wind me up for the need to rant.
Anyways. I have a little experience with the chain whip and rope dart and happy to share my knowledge with anyone (Black belt or not ;op ).
Mostly stuff I got from frame skipping dvd's and through boshing myself on the head.
I’ll be at the Clapham Common meet this Sunday (10th July) look for the short Chinese one!
