posted a minor description of this in weave to butterfly thread only a day or two ago... the number of beats just depends on the number of fingerspins/hand wraps you are prepared to do... and there is one btbt also, but i will wait til its a bit more solid....

I just saw that one with poi a few days ago (morning coffee video. very wicked looking.

I didn't see it in the other thread, but since it was titled butterfly to weave I didn't think to look there.

Actually, I don't do doubles sanatana new, but I had a go with single staff and ended up in some kind of double rotor thingy

There seem to be 2 different versions for the 2 beat TTN. You can either lead with the right hand or with the left hand. Nice variations imo. Same theory applies to Poi btw smile

yeah! you tell him!!

i think you'll find andy that rather than starting a new thread on ttn with staffs you should have first done a search and seen if there was an old one on the subject and added your thoughts to that...

hold on, i'm obviously confused - what's the right thing to do again?!!??

maybe i should just shut up and jump on that grumpyness bandwagon:

*growl*

wink

seriously, what's all this about 'leading' in a regular 2bt ttn andy?

surely you can stop/start in whichever of the 2 butterfly positions that you are changing between so i don't understand how you recognise which hand is in the lead?

thx smile

Lets go . . . . some Poitheory applied to staff eek

Play Doublestaff Butterflies with the thumbends always in the front and the pinkyends always bhb.
When you play TTN you alternate: right hand end on top -> left hand end on top.
But since the Pinkyend is half a beat late you can alternate the change of the bhb Topend too.

L: Lefthand front on top
l: lefthand bhb on top
R: Righthand fron on top
r: righthand bhb on top

So you can play:
L l R r L l R r L l ....
L r R l L r R l L r ....

I found another TTNish type move with double staves but its sort of different than what everyone is used to seeing and thinks of when they hear the term.

First off, I wanna say that this is probably my first post in the staff section and I dont follow it so forgive me if this is a dumb idea and/or already has a name. All my staff work was taught to myself and Im not really that great IMO, but anyway...

I was playing with a few new (to me) concepts with my short doubles in the past week or so, trying to see what you can do with staff without actually spinning them much. Found a few cool little maneuvers that resemble liquid moves and utilize isolations to an extent. One of these moves are as follows:

-I think you need rather short staves to do this so probably shouldnt try it with yer 5+ footers!

- Start with both staves in front of you, horizontal, gripping them with your palms down.
- "Slide" the staves sideways crossing your arms with your right arm on top.
- Once your right hand staff has cleared your left arm, spin them half a rotation clockwise so your palms are now facing upwards and slide it back to uncross.
- When your hands get back to starting position, turn them another half rotation counter clockwise so your palms are facing down again.
- Repeat with the opposite arm crossing on top.

I dunno what it is but it looks pretty cool when I do it in my mirror smile Figured Id give this old thread a new little kick perhaps to calm the blue grump wink

Let's turn those old bridges we crossed into ashes.
We'll blaze a new trail,
and torch the rough patches.
