Posted:and now for good measure i have bent the first staff i ever used...

always upsetting to lose an old friend, and i suppose 15months is not bad considering i knew very little about construction of staffs when making it, the amount of time spent on it, changes of wick(to bigger and heavier each time....) and punishing sequences involving 'intentional' drops....
fortunately i made a pair! and 1 is still going strong, and i think there may just be some salvageable bits there.....

RIP o unnamed toy (would feel ashamed but it was always a case of the staff being part of me and not a separate identity....except when i hurt myself of course)

Posted:Rob,

It is sad to lose a toy that you have been playing with for a long time and learnt a lot with.

At a party at Steart Common I lost one of my original set of fire poi and I was gutted However my new set are lovely and the memory of the old ones still lives on with every routine I do and every new move I learn

my first staff, also unnamed was smashed into three peices one night, well, I smashed it but thats a much longer story. it was sad, and i considered mounting the peices for an art progect but eventually let it go. its got to happen sometimes.

I think its good sometimes to remember that its just a ting, not a person, otherwise it can develope into a fetish (in the true sence of the word). one night after holding my staff for about 6 hours solid I had to trow it as far away as possible, just to make the point the I have a life! Of course i fetched it back shortly after.

look at the bright side, err.... ummm... NEW TOYS!

it occurs to me if Charles felt like this hed be a much more depressed person

maybe you should make the next from titanium?

Love

N

Minero, this may or may not cheer you up, remember over the neck, across the shoulders pinch and back across? well, pinch and send it back again, and back, and back, and back etc....

Also, i got the pickup, so if you learn glasses turning shoulder/forarm/forarm/shoulder move, i reacon that the perfect place to 'drop' it.

take care,

N

Posted:You had to give up your practice staffs? Sounds like time to get your own. Heres my practice staff recipe

1. Take one broomhandle.
2. Open you hand.
2. Place broomhandle in palm between outstretched fingers.
3. Ensure palm is facing up and the staff is resting on the palm.
4. Simultaneously close fingers and let go of staff with other hand.
VOILA One practice staff.

For Doubles, repeat exercise!

charles, i don't haev brooms (no, i'm serious). but i still haev my six foot hunk of wood so i'm good for today. and i'm just going to go buy more dowels when i get to santa cruz, and ah... make myself a nice firestaff

so it'll all be good. but i grew really attached to them, they've been through quite a bit with me.... (every gathering i've ever been too and i've had them almost since i started,) and i know that's not very long, but i still miss them.

but i'm going to santa cruz tommorow, headquarters of renengade juggling

Pleased you took it the right way, Kyrian. I read through that just now and thought it might have seemed a bit rude. Whegh!

Glass - For the doubles recipe, do the single recipe first, then put down the first broom stick, and repeat the single recipe with another broomstick.

Then, in the free hand, pick up the first one...

Awww......mineiro - your poor staff. I broke my fluffy poi yesterday and they're currently held together with the ribbon I use to tie my dreads up

They'll get better though. Put your staff on a wall or something and give it a plaque of rememberence ........ depending on how far you want to take the mourning.

Hope you have a great time with Cass - Give her a huge hug from me
