Type in 'make your own poi' in the search bar, it'll bring up hundreds of pages where this has been discussed before. Instructions for making all types of poi - sock, tennis balls, fire poi etc.

Blergh bollocks.
Don't go and buy shit you don't need YET!

I made my first like this:

You need:

2 tennis balls
bundle of easy rope(no sisal!)

You pierce the tennis balls with a screwdriver of scissors and you try to get the rope trough the tennis balls.
Then make sure the rope stays tied to the ball(some knot or something) and make a few handles on the other side of the rope.
Et Voila, you got yourself some poi, great for beginners, easy to make and no costs at all.

Get some cheap white sports socks, stand on one end and give a big pull to stretch them.

Put a tennis ball in each sock.

I've got a lot of diiferent pairs of poi, but I still use my sock poi a lot for practice.

They also glow really well under uv light.
