presence of salts, pH, temperature, along with moisture. Bacteria can affect the pH, but that is about all.

normal bacteria cannot effect rusting, however, there have recently been theories put forward that tiny bacteria of almost virus size (archea) act as a catalyst for rusting, and that no such reaction can occur without them.

wow, that was the most sciency thing I've said all week...give me a moment... pointers are a data referencing method rather than a data storage method, leading to serious issues of memory allotment in C++ when incorrectly implemented classes are destructed in default or incorrect ways... the summation of all numbers from x to y can be determined by the equation sum = (x+y)((y-x)+1)/2... all better, yayayayayayay
