I just wanted to find out if any of you had ever experimented with color(s) of the flame. I recall from a chemistry class that if you add metals/elements to the flame they burn up in a color like K potassium burns purple....Have any of you experimented? Lemmno. I would love to know how to make colored flames because my favorite part of the spin is when the flame is starting to go out and it burns slightly blue ....Something to think about

try a search...there's *loads* of info out threre on coloured flames, two threads in the recently discussed section alone.
I *do* remember purple being discussed, can't remember where though.

I think that this officially proves that there is no God. I had my doubts but this does it. No God. Famine, death, and war I could deal with but clearly this is a cruel and heartless world created solely to torment me.

I believe if you go to www.geocities.com/firepoi and then look under the "fuels, flame colours and non-fire ideas" there is a pretty good guide on what chemicals to use to make pretty coloured flames

Salt Peter (potassium nitrate) is supposed to burn purple, but it tends to burn blue with a slight purple tint. it's also supposedly very hot to burn... but nope it actually burns with a much cooler less vigorous flame than parafine/kerosine... and it STINKS real bad, sort of reminds me of burning rubber!
EDIT:
I have also noticed that this fuel corrodes any metal on your wicks! Check your saturation and make sure that you check the equipement u've used here are still in good condition before burning again! The residue here is also quite terrible! If you decide to try this out, make sure you have a set of wicks and chains that you will only be using for this fuel!

The only thing I don't like about the couple times I've done colored fire, is that burning with the alcohol the flame is pretty much silent, you don't get that roar
