greetings,Just wondering what the professional performers out there do in order to secure the very lucrative corporate contracts. The Wick Effect have been spinning at outdoor parties for little to no money and want some financial gain!what's your first point of contact? How do you go about it? Do you contact the companies - "cold calling" type stuff? Are you on the books of an "agent" that looks after corporate promotions? Do you have a portfolio or something for them to flick through?Any advice would be much appreciated. tired of pouring money into this venture... need some returns smile------------------"she dances in a ring of fire and throws off the challenge with a shrug"

I've got a few hints, however, I'm going to be defensive and selfish and not post them on the board to all and sundry. The main reason being, if other, unprofessional people use my techniques, get lots of gigs...and then someone gets hurt, or they act unprofessionally or even dishonestly, all fire performers will suffer. It only takes one accident or dishonest act to effectively discredit every other fireperformer in the eyes of the the employer or public attending.Worse yet, if it makes it to the press, the whole region or country will suddenly be very hesistant to have firies for a long time. You seem to be pretty thoughtful and sensible in the discussions we've had, FFire, So i'll email you some of my techniques, they work well in NZ, hopefully the same should be true for where you are based...please note that any idea posted here can be used for non-fire advertising too. Hatemail, internet and mail scammers, criminals trying to pull something, so be very careful about what you post on this public forum.I'd prefer everyone to email flash instead, her email is the little envelope icon at the top of her post...[edited addition - I might seem a little agressive here...the reason is that i work in marketing during the day, and come across continual abuse of the marketing system and of generally good ideas by unscrupulous people. An example is if I post an easy way of how to get the email adresses of all talent scouts and agents in Australia, chances are, suddenly those addresses will get porn and other unwanted advertising in their inbox.Another great idea was to mark professional looking chalk adds on pavements in Auckland city, and now there are some people spraying them on permanently with paint (grrr). These few people make the rest of us marketers look like unscrupulous selfish idiots and we try to keep their access to ideas to a minimum.]------------------Charles (INFERNO)newdolbel@hotmail.comhttps://juggling.co.nz[This message has been edited by Charles (edited 19 September 2001).]

Nice Charles. I too would be interested in hearing what you have to say, though I know I am on the boat late. Anyway.....for me word of mouth has worked wonders...and I take business cards no matter where I go.------------------Pele Higher, higher burning fire...making music like a choir...https://www.pyromorph.com

Thanks guys, I wasn't so sure about people's response to my post, thanks for backing me up...I've already sent an apology email to Flash, as I may have inadvertently stopped anyone else from giving her advice (if you have been emailed by others, please let me know Flash).I don't have a copy of the email anymore, however I'm sure if you sent a few suggestions to Flash she would be glad to forward mine on to you as well.Pele. Word of mouth is always strongly recommended, but needs to combined with both an easy to spell & remember name, as well as a listing in the yellow pages, or some other way to get your phone number that the average person can figure out.PS Just a little boasting, I just secured two gigs today, one the day after the other, as well as an offer of ongoing work for several months next year as part of an ongoing promotion. With the two secured today, that means I've had an average of 3 paid gigs every month since the start of the year (including winter!) but not including freelancing. As I work fulltime during the week, I think thats a good average which should only climb as we are heading into summer at the moment...Yay me!------------------Charles (INFERNO)newdolbel@hotmail.comhttps://juggling.co.nz

Wow I'm still on the bussniess card route myself. Mostly been tryin to get my name in with rave promoters but haven't had to much luck yet. There is however one that's thinkin about hiring a few fire peeps and I sent her all my info. It'll be my first paid performance. While I'm insane with how much fire I can create. I always keep control and saftey in mind too. If you think I'm worthy of your secrets it would be a great help. I even redesigned my chains today to remove the keyrings so I can do 6 footers without worry of failure. What was that fire guys name again.. Noggie? Noggel? No no it was laggie. I could use an easyer name but this is who I am. Confusion and insanity all wrapped into one impossiable to pronouce jumble of letters smile------------------We are all in the cosmic movie.
