Hello all - as Durbs and I are starting to get a few enquires - I reckon we should put it down in the events section

Every Thurdays at York Road car park (at the top in winter - on the grass outside when it gets warmer) not the carpark symbol need to drive down the hill between by the red circle and the highstreet - it's in there...

We tend to get there between 7.30 and 8pm and drift off when we are tired, cold or thirsty..

Any toys welcome! All levels of ability welcome.. we can give you pointers, but please don't expect a work shop type affair - but come and play and see what happens.. sit, chat, smoke, spin - s'up to you..or show us new stuff to help inspire..

All poi, staffs, short staff, devil stix, diabolo, swords, astrojax, flags, uv, fire.. you name it we got them - and if not bring more..

Hope to see you - if yo need any info - please PM either me or Durbs..

Take it easy
Niki aka Stix

Good, but I'd argue and say that at the moment we're getting 20 - 30 people each night...

Just to say - If you are coming tonight, bring a bean-bag/rug/comfy chair etc...
We thought we'd try and brighten our little car-park up and make it a bit more comfortable.

We're not performing officially, but you can be fairly sure that the Guildford lot will be at this years Guildford Fireworks display on Stoke Park, 5th November (at least I think that's when it is) for a jolly good spin.

There's going to be a fun fair too

IMPORTANT

After 3 years of un-hindered spinning, the Guildford Borough Council have decided to ban us using the car park... The matter is currently in discussion, but until we reach a resolve:-
THERE WILL BE NO MEETINGS ON THURSDAYS AT YORK ROAD CAR PARK

We are all completely gutted by this and are protesting through every means possible.
I shall let you know when the situation is resolved.
If you have any questions (or ideas for an alternative venue) either e-mail me through the website - www.hugbubble.co.uk - or give me a ring - 0777 33 99 197

Hi all, I'm just writing to introduce myself to you. I live in farnham and have played fire poi for the past 2 years. I just got a staff for xmas, and haven't really had a chance to practice (with the cold weather and not knowing any others in the area that spin frown). When the guildford meets get back on i'd love to come along. I used to go to some meets in Brighton when i lived down there, but since i moved back, theres not much on the sceen so its great to see that theres something going on in guildford. I work with a girl called Beth whos been along before, so may come down with her sometime.

Well, we might win the rights to go back there - fingers crossed as people just turn up there anyway and there's no way of letting them know...

Flid - All the Car Parks are owned by the same company so the "no" applies to all of them. frown

We're searching, ringing and e-mailing all the different possibilites in G'ford trying to get an inside place. It's only really an issue if it's cold or raining (i.e. 75% of the year) wink

However, I'm trying to turn it into a positive thing and look at it as a chance to improve Thursday's. Personally (and I know I'm not alone here) I think they'd become a bit stagnant, too much socialising, not enough spinning - If we can get a nice inside venue, rig up some UV lighting, get a sound system, maybe with an attached bar - we can get a thing a bit like The Viaduct or The Arches in London. Also a nicer venue should attract more people (to be honest, a car park isn't that appealing to a first timer).
Downside being it might have to be a £2/3 admission charge.

Anyhoo - we ARE still meeting. Currently in Scruffy's (now called The Britannia) down by the river. If it's warm and dry enough (which I tihnk it will be tonight) we can spin there and it's really lovely. And if it rains we can mope about in the pub feeling sorry for ourselves.

Thanks for all the sympathy smile

The times that i went along we never did fire in the carpark itself, so what about an indoor venue for non fire stuff? We've used the quaker meeting hall thing loads of times for various things. I'm pretty sure it's either free or very cheap to rent, it's in the centre of town (opposite the library) and it's get enough space inside for maybe 20 people spinning. I'm not sure what they'd say about physical activity rather than sit down meetings, and you certainly wouldn't be able to smoke inside, but just a thought.

Yeah, we're looking not looking to do fire inside. Just on a very tight budget... Meh.

No-one's said yes yet - GSA and Surrey Uni Sports halls are getting back to me.

Still, it was fun by the river last night - not many people but lots of fire biggrin
