Saw on the news this morning that Glastonbury is going ahead again this year despite protests...

Apparently they are spending more on security and suchlike. Don't know anything more, alas, as the news report was sketchy on detail.

Don't worry, be happy...

Yey my birthday party is on!

Extra money needed for security will not be pushed into the ticket prices... just taken out of the money usually donated to charity.. I'll probably be there - but it's selling itself out...

That's totally great News!!

Last year rocked, cos you could actually get from field to field in less than 2 hours. And didn't get attacked/robbed etc. as usual.

But there are two down sides to no fence jumpers. Fewer of my mates who can't afford it come, and I do feel sorry for the locals, as all those who can't get in set up camp in the surrounding villages and get robbed/attacked etc. instead.

Two mates of mine who were working as stewards outside the festival grounds had knives pulled on them several times, every night.

I hope the extra security actually prevents Opportunists travelling to the surrounding areas. I just feel bad about partying it up when little old ladies are being robbed at our pleasure.

Anyways, better get my tickets soon before they all run out, and see you al there!!

....so does it come with a hat?

Councillors give Glastonbury green light
The organisers of the Glastonbury Festival have been granted a licence.
In December, Mendip District Council in Somerset refused a public entertainment licence for the event after concerns were raised including security in nearby villages and environmental damage.
But in the early hours of today, following a seven-hour meeting at the council offices in Shepton Mallet, the board voted 10-4 to approve the licence for the event to go ahead in June.
Event promoter Michael Eavis said he was delighted the festival was returning to Worthy Farm in Pilton. "After losing it last time we were worried, but we did a spanking good presentation," he said.
"I've never worked so hard as this in my life with getting people to come along and speak at the meeting.
"It was a really good meeting and we will now concentrate on the problems of the villages for this year's festival. No-one cares more about Pilton than I do."
Although the application was not formally opposed by police, concerns were raised over problems last year in villages near the site. Avon and Somerset Police statistics showed that a total of 1,094 crimes were attributed to the festival last year, compared with 2,431 in 2000 and 2,074 in 1999.
The application was granted for up to 150,000 tickets comprising 112,500 weekend tickets, 3,500 Sunday day passes and 34,000 passes for performers between 9am on June 25 and 5pm on June 30.
The hours of entertainment granted were between 10am and 12.30am on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 and between 10am and midnight on June 29. Conditions include a security fence, a security plan and traffic management.
Among the acts rumoured to be playing at this year's event are REM, Radiohead, PJ Harvey, Queens of the Stone Age and possibly the band of the moment - Coldplay.

tennis, think the cctv is only around the villages to stop trouble there. Anyway, if they did video and arrest everyone doing something even a bit 'naughty' they'd have 100000 people to arrest and there ain't enough video tape in the world!

I'm going to make Glastonbury the first big event I go to in England. Everyone just planning on meeting there? or will a group go together? I'm finding the idea of England just a little daunting, but want to meet many London (and other UK HOPpers on my travels).

See you soon

Just wondering if anyone's planning on doing any volunteering this year, and if so who for?

I'm going to try and do either stewarding with Oxfam or work in the ~Workers Beer Company~ beer tent... any more ideas? Would be wicked to meet some new faces at last and spin the nights away

See ya there soon!

To the birthday people.. YAY!! Will definatly meet up and sing to each other! Hardly any of my mates are coming this year - so it'll be cool to sing - as my mats won't be there to sing to me..
