ok, so i'm pretty sure I can do this move, but from what other people have been saying, it sounds like something other than what I have been doing. Can anyone, in detail, clarify this move for me as to ensure i'm doing the right thing?? 'Twould be much appreciated.

Hmm, the fountain? let's see...

start by doing the foreard weave (FW) on the side of you body then bring it up, when it gets up there, transform that into a wind-mill (WM), then make it come down on the other side of your body in a reverse weave (RW) and follow that with a split time low turn (STLT) <- I don't know if there's a name for this move.

........WM
..FW......RW
FW..........RW
..FW......RW
......STLT

So it looks like a big weaving circle. Good luck and have fun spinning.

since when do fountains involve turning and/or windmills... I thought that was something else since a fountian involves doing a weave in teh wall plane where the weave occurs on the sides...

for example.. you do a weave on the left side.. which make a circle on the left side behind you and the weave brings the other circle in fron which you can use to go into the rev weave on the right side making a circle behind you which then comes back to make a circle up front...

you don't ahve to turn or do a windmill.. using a windmill and stuff goes into other moves...

I was browsing the galleries one and saw a really gorgeous photo of someone spinng in what looked like sort of and elipse shape, and they called it the fountain. I then tried some moves out myself to see if I could get teh same pattern and I wound up with forward weave to reverse weave in a wall plane down real low, then when coming back instead of going low again I did windmill. I like how it flows and me dad said it was pretty so why not? I'm sure everyone has veriations for each move.

You're all wrong.

But the split time low turn is a 'watermill'.

Well, shall we go?

I'm getting all confussed over this fountain thing. They list a move on www.firechains.com and they call it a fountain, is that what a fountain is?

Hrmmm... Maybe I disagree with myself about a split time low turn. A watermill is really a windmill below the waist.

I agree 100% with the firechains.com definition. It's a single forward weave, windmill, and reverse weave combo.

Different but similar to a waist wrap which has a carry in it. There is no carry in a fountain.

Do a search though and you can find lots of cool arguements about this move.

Well, shall we go?

NYC, the fountain is not a move but a series of moves connected in succession. It is useless and stupid to name every possible combination of moves.

Odd mine seems too be a forward weave to windmill then back to a forward weave. Must try this some more tomorrow.

Indeed you are correct, but only partially. I was wrong about calling the fountain a 'move'... that part is true as it is, indeed, a combination of moves. BUT it is useful to name because it is such a common combination of beginner moves that it is easier to discuss if named.

Also, perhaps we should stop discussing the 'fountain' as it tends to aggrivate our schitzophrenia as well as decreasing our ability to spel.

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

Ah... I am being yelled at. By 'a watermill is a windmill below the waist' I was not specific. Though the poi can be either spun with or without going between the legs, a watermill is done by actually going between the legs to come out the other side, exactly like a windmill is done behind the head.

So, for glass' sake:

'A watermill is a windmill below the waist'

should actually read

'A watermill is a windmill below the waist'

Oh wait, it already does.

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.

i invented my own version of a 'fountain' anyway just last night, so i'm satisfied calling that a fountain. Maybe the 'fountain' is more a state of mind, more like an abstract way of life with dissectional realism mixed with undeniably second-hand infatuation.
