I've just nailed the 5 beat weave. The problem is i'm trying to figure out how you do the 5 beat reverse weave. I've had a look at the video in the learning section but can't see what his hands are doing, anyone have any tips?

can you do a 3 beat reverse weave? If you can, then do exactly the same as when you learnt the 5 bt forward weave, just add two more beats, thats what i did, its still a bit sloppy as i only learnt it a few days ago

Aim high and you'll know your limits, aim low and you'll never know how high you could have climbed.

I keep headbutting my poi.. I still haven't got it. I'm still not entirely sure of hte timing - exactly when do you start pulling across to the other side? If you're crossing to the left, you lead with your left hand when it's tucked over the right arm and under your right hand?

I do poi nearly every day. But it's not like I'm addicted or anything. I mean, sure, I am always conscious of exactly where my poi are at all times, but I'm not obsessed. um.. Anyone have the number for Poi-ers Anon?

ahhh...the good ol 5 beat rev....

i worked this out once, but after 3 months forgot the nack so i had to reteach myself , much to the pain of my head.

anyway the trick is that you have to move your hands across your body really fast. the 5 beat forward is quite smooth, but with the reverse - as soon as your wrists wrap and the poi that needs to cross your body is rising, you need to whip your wrists to the other side of your body. if you move too slow, youll hit yourself in the head.

hope this helps.
cheers.

Just to be arkward (how do you spell that?)

I think backwards is easier, the hands fit together better and i can make it go proper chase time better.

Yeah it's a bugger to learn but Dentrassi's advice was the key for me - as you wrap your wrists around each other you have to move them straight across your body to unwrap.

It took me an eternity to learn the 3-, 4- and 5-beat weaves, but the 6-beat and all the reverses came pretty easily. The trick is to really pay attention to where you're putting your hands. If you're adding in the fifth beat on your right, you'll find you're wrapping your right hand over and back under your left. So to do this in reverse, you'll have to wrap your right hand under and back over your left. It'll come easiest when you're not thinking about it. Do the forward a ton of times then try turning it to the back.
The sad thing is a crowd can't tell the difference between all these beats we try so hard to get. Well, not when I do them at least... Anyways, good luck

THink it was FNF's advice in another thread a while back helped me. When learning it have you're hand quite close to you're head. For me it feels like I'm lifting my hands for the exra circle on the backwards one, whereas it felt I was going lower with my hands when I first got the forwards one. I think.

I live in a world of infinite possibilities.

ok.. I'm not very good with words.. but I'm gonna try this anyway.. this is how I learned it since I don't have anyone to learn from... when you do a 3 beat weave you alternate the hand that leads.. right leads, left follow, then left leads as right follows.. well to do a 5 beat weave your having to get the opposite hands to lead.. easier said then done.. on trick that helped me was to make hand motions similar to an alternating butterfly.. by turning mybody slightly during the weave, my new leading hand would make the same motion as going from front to back in an alternating butterfly, while my the string of the non-lead poi slid down my arm to my wrist (which guided it in the proper direction)... I'm reading over this thinking to myself.. dayum... they aren't gonna have a clue as to what I'm saying.. but I figure I'll through it out there.. just do an front to bhb alternating butterfly... check out the hand motion.. your hand (if you do it like me) will make and L shape with your arm... that's the motion I use on my 5 beat rev weave.. and the other hand's poi should slide right down your arm and catch on that L.. and from there it directs itself.. justmake sure that boith palms are up at the same time and down at the same time.. and you should have no problems..
took me like 1 day and a half to get it.. unlike the 5 bhb rev which took me a week and a half..

It was learning the 5 bt rev weave that helped me to understand how to add htose extra beats onto everything from corks, to windmills, to bhb...

theres my .02

i cant do backwards 5bw either, but i can do forwards, and i think that if you can do it on one side you can do it on the other.. its simply a matter of doing the mirror image.. honestly i dont think anyone but yourself can help you at this stage.. its sad but probly true.

ooh. warning. don't default to the five when you learn it to the point that you forget how to do the 3 a year later because you haven't done any 3 beat all. I'm having trouble now w/ my 3 beat butterflies, b/c the 5 beats keep getting in the way. it becomes easier to lead with the other hand than it was to lead with the 3 beat's leading hand.

again, you'll find this in a search in every thread of this type, so I'll paraphrase everyone else and just say "Learning the 5 is really learning how to not do the 6 or 7". "The trouble you take learning the reverse will make the reverse that much more 'right'. You'll probably end up with the reverse cleaner than the forward like everyone else here who learned them in that order."

good luck! it makes it worth it, too, that the reverse BTB is so much easier than the forward BTB. don't know about BTB 5's though. wink

sorry....
i've just realized that this doesnt help you at all....
i find that i have to be very twisty with my hands....
ie, on my left side my right hand has to twist around my left real heaps.
gah it'd be so much easier to show you than to attempt to explain it with silly old words.....

for me that advice was golden... i didnt even realize that the reason why i couldnt do the reverse was exactly that: i was afraid of hitting my self in the face.

once ur hands are close to ur face tho, ull probably only hit urself in ur back... no sweat there. im still working on it makin it good, but i definitely got the beats in there, which was my goal.

thanks, and i recommend the same advice to anyone tryin to learn.

Arrr, so annoying. I'm so close to getting this right, I think. At first i was hitting myself in the head all the time, now my problem seems to be when say at the far right side of the weave (where u start going infront of your body again) my right poi wraps over my left arm, same on other side, sometimes.

Practise makes Poi-fect :P

i nailed my forward and reverse 5 beat(reverse still needs abit of cleaning up tho)

But the trick is the arm that needs to go through to the other side, thats where the problem is, thats why you hit yourself, because it doesnt feel natural. I found actually using your other hand to "push " it over to the other side while in the 5 beat helps alot, you will see that the other hand will automatically follow.

Tried and tested on a few people already.
