There is one move i dont get...I know how to do it and all that but I dont see the point of doing it...Tread the needle (TTN) .....for me looks like a butterfly....(but you move your arms a bit more)...but I see you guys here on HOP talk about it alot so i wonder what I'm missing out on....
It's a move i dont use at all....

It's another move to add to ya repetoire & opens up other moves like TTN weave, TTN fountain, and on to wrist wraps in all the moves, infront, on the side, bhb, bth (and other 3 letter sylabols ). It's a very versatile move.
For looks it might be not different than the butterfly, but for the action, the movement, the feel, it's completely different & it opens up another area of poi moves. Well worth the time to investigate. Go on, you know you wanna

It by it's self hardly looks any diffrent and to someone who doesn't know anything about poi you can only see a diffrence if you look at it from the right angle but im quickly realizing it opens up the door for a ton of other movies.

There is also a variation on TTN that you can get 3 and 4 beats out of a regular TTN.Really hard to explain but well worth learning.I'll let master PK describe it,he'll probably do a better job.

I felt the same way when I first learned TTN and reverse TTN.Of course without them I wouldn't be doing 3 beat butterfly weaves.

I wonder what master Derry would say about this?

a agree, for the amount of extra effort it doesn't look different to the butterfly. However if you take it up to the horizontal plane above your head then it looks like you are punching the air with hands one at a time, and looks rather nifty.

:steps in with masters cap on head:

few little monsters for you, if you dont see the point in TTN's

Thread the needle weave three beat -same time
Thread the needle weave three beat -split time
Thread the needle -same time
Thread the needle -split time
Triple stitching with right hand -same time
Triple stitching with left -same time
Double thread the needle -same time
Thread the needle behind the head -same time
Thread the needle behind the head -split time
Thread the needle through the legs from the front -same time
Thread the needle through the legs from the front -split time
Thread the needle through the legs from behind -same time
Thread the needle through the legs from behind -split time

There are a few silly ones there to play with.
I remember the days of wondering wether TTN's were worth while and any point, but
they add a certain few skills : they will teach you how to turn butterflies more eficiently, they all so do look nice to the eye and feel nice to do.
Remember all moves have a point, but some can be just too stupid and totally pointless, but can be fun to try and have a laugh.

I've been spinning a year and a half now, people say i am a master, i shrug it off, i dont see myself that way. but it just goes to show what moves i can do and moves i cant, i ony just learnt the 3 beat TTN weave in split time.
I hope you can come back to the board and tell us your findings, i hope you change you mind, i know you will in time, the more you learn.

With as much info you have a tendency to give I wouldn't say that is too far fetched of an idea.

A REALLY simply variation on TTN, that looks pretty awesome, is if you just slow it down a LOT, and really accentuate your arm movements, stick your arms right out when doing it, then pull them back slowly, but just in time to miss the chain as it comes down. It just looks completely impossible!!

Does anybody feel like explaining tripple stitching? PK?

Gooi nat, or don't gooi at all.*Nic*

Mr PK (or anyone else to that matter) i have just started trying ttn and am getting there ...slowly, but i was wondering if you could go into some more detail on the moves such as the butterfly weave and alike. i would be most grateful.

thank you in anticipation

TTN might not look so spectacular if you do it head on but if you really exaggerate/accentuate the movement of your arms then it can help you flow/dance around a great deal more. Also try doing TTN to your left and then bringing it to reverse TTN on your right (or vice versa). That way people watching head on can see the shifting planes you create as you move your arms in and out.

Easiest way to get a triple stitch ttn is watch someone do it, preferably from the side, because it dosn't look much different from in front, but i'll atempt a description...

triple stitch TTN:

from a forward TTN (that is, right hand anti- clockwise, left hand clockwise,) where you would normaly pass your right hand over the left, and through the plane of the other poi, instead pass your right hand around and under the left hand, keeping the poi plane inside the other, then pass it through the left poi plane under the left hand.

works with the other hand too. both together is a quad stitch... when you can do it backwards as well, you can do a 5 beat butterfly weave, without having to do a normal TTN...

while trying to do a 5bt ttn weave, you'll most likely get to see what a butterfly hyperloop looks like, although, if your anything like me, it still won't make any sense...

please spank me and point me in the right direction if this is described elsewhere, but i'm confused:

what is the difference between:
Thread the needle three beat and Triple stitching

and more importantly, how do I squeeze in the extra beats. i've got the plain ttn down, in reverse, and on the horizontal planes.

cheers

I'm going straight to hell.

there is not much difference between triple stitching and 3 beat TTN, just two different names for the same move, you can whip an extra beat in front with either poi, or you can do an extra beat with the inside arm passing it in front over the arm instead of under it [presuming it in reverse][vise versa forwards].
needs a video really to see whats happening. will see what i can do this week if i aint too busy.

okaaaay. been doing that. you could as many more stitches messing around with the various speeds of the alternate poi. Is there another where you do a regular bfly beat before stiching it through. Is the 4 beat?

thanx
